It's been briefly mentioned in a couple of other threads that the TSU9400 does not support WAV files. However, the TSU9400 ProntoEdit Professional software actually allows you to add WAV files to the XCF. But, when the XCF is downloaded to the TSU9400, no sound is played. Is this just a bug with the editor (which may share code with the TSU9600, which does support WAV files)? Or maybe WAV support is something that can be added to the TSU9400 via firmware in the future (assuming its hardware can actually play WAV files)?

What is disappointing is that there is no way to add simple sounds (beeps) like it was with the TSU3000, TSU7000, & TSU7500 Prontos. Even simple sounds are useful for bringining attention to the user (such as when long running macros end or if a question dialog box needs to pop up). I imported my PCF to the TSU9400, and the simple beeping sounds have an error icon next to them saying the sound is not supported.

When you say "Add a WAV", does that mean you are putting a file into the 'Sounds' folder where the software is installed? Is this sound file encoded in the correct format? I believe 44KHz, 16 bit mono but Help file or FAQ on Philips website will confirm?

There are WAV files delivered with the TSU9400 editor. I tried adding some of these to my TSU9400 XCF. The 9400 editor actually lets you add it. However, neither the simulator nor the actual remote plays the WAV files. The editor's help text says it is possible to add your own WAV files, but I haven't tried it, given that the WAV.files that come with the editor do not play, except in the TSU9400 editor itself. If the 9400 hardware cannot play WAV files (assuming there really is a hardware limitation) the editor should at least let you add the beeping sounds like the NG editor's.

I have to apologize and state I don't have a 9400. The Pro platform no longer supports beeps like the older remotes. WAV files are the only things that work. Is there possibly an selection on the Settings Pages to enable/disable this feature?

I don't see anything in the TSU9400 Settings page or in the ProntoEdit Pro's System Properties that require WAV file playback to be enabled. The System Properties has "Button Volume" and "General Volume" settings, but these were set to "Level 1" (the lowest out of 4 levels). I suppose I can crank up the volume to see if it makes any difference. Anyway, it's still not clear if either (a) the TSU9400 doesn't actually support WAV playback and it's a bug in the ProntoEdit Pro to allow one to select WAV files for the TSU9400 XCF, OR (b) the TSU9400 hardware actually supports WAV playback but there is a bug somewhere that prevents the TSU9400 from playing back WAV files. If (a), I would hope that at least the editor would allow one to play back beeping sounds similar to those available with the older Prontos.

The TSU9400 has the ability to use built-in sound files but I also cannot get any of them to play.

I know they work in the TSU9600. The buttons will all beep with the default beep sound. They do on mine. In the system properties in PEP, there is a "button" volume setting. Just make sure it is not set to off.

However, it does not seem to play any of the sounds, when they are programmed into macros, etc.

Dear Pronto users,

It is correct that the TSU9400 does not support WAV-sounds. By accident the WAV-functionality was not removed in the editor and its Help file, causing the confusion. Whatever sound you select, it will be converted to a short standard beep on the control panel. As the length of the beep is rather short we will extend the length in a next release. For the moment we suggest to add several sounds with a small delay in between (0.1 sec) to indicate the end of a macro.

Thanks for the information. Currently, the TSU9400 editor doesn't allow you to input a beep sound in a macro similar to how you can with the older NG editor. It would be good if a future version of the editor allows you to enter beeps with a user-specified duration, similar to how you can do so with the older NG editors. Thanks.

I doubt we will ever get this functionality back again.

Hmmm... the TSU9400 hardware itself can "beep" just fine, so I do hope they'll provide the functionality in the editor.

>>Beep just fine.

But is the beep coming from a transducer that has a reasonable frequency range, say 300~3KHz? Judging by the high frequency squeek of the beep, the 9400 uses a resonant transducer of about 2KHz, and if so, no amount of software could make one of those produce satisfactory audio.

What I meant was that the Classic Prontos had a beep duration and a beep frequency. I doubt we will ever have this capability back as before but I could be wrong.
