I'm trying to determine how easy it is to port my TSU7500 PCF to a TSU9400 XCF. So far, it seems that it will be a lot easier than when I went from my TS1000 to TSU3000 and also a lot easier than when I went from the TSU3000 to TSU7000/TSU7500. I'm pretty impressed with the TSU9400 simulator, and how fast it comes up as compared to the TSU7000/TSU7500 simulator!

One issue that I've run into is that the text in button names and text labels are very hard to read in the ProntoEdit Professional 9400 1.1 editor. The text looks fuzzy and a lot thicker than it should be as compared to how it looks with the ProntoProEdit NG editor. All the graphics transferred fine. It's just that text, whether in buttons or in text labels, are very "fuzzy". It's as if they're "bold in steroids". The text look the same whether looking at them in the main editor, or in the simulator.

I have a jpeg of this problem, but I'm not sure how to post pictures in this forum (if anyone has suggestions, let me know).

Maybe there's just something wrong with my PC's environment??? I have 3 different Pronto editors installed at the same time:

- ProntoEdit Professional 9400 1.1
- ProntoProEdit NG 2.1.8.0 (for my TSU7500/TSU7000)
- ProntoEdit NG 3.1.3.0 (for my TSU3000)

I'm running Windows XP SP2. My graphics card is set to 32 bit color.

Could it be something wrong with my environnment? Or is there just a bug in the ProntoEdit Professional 9400 1.1 software?

I also noticed that my TSU7500 PCF's System Page didn't get imported properly to my TSU9400's XCF. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to change the color of the system date & time from black to white?

Finally, anyone have additional tips/hints when porting TSU7500 PCF to TSU9400 XCF

Thanks,

randman

rand,

To change the color of the system items, you have to hack the ConfigEdit.xml file inside the XCF (XCF is a zip file) searching for [less-than]TIMESTATUS/[greater-than] or [less-than]DATESTATUS/[greater-than]. You should be able to find tips on how to do this in the NG forum :)

With regard to the font, all 3 editors use a file named pronto.ttf. The 9400 software will replace the file used by previous editors so I don't suggest running all 3 editors on the same PC as the one supplied for the 9400 is definitely different than the other ones.

Thanks, Lyndel. The 9400 software is the one that I installed last. If the 9400 editor replaces the pronto.ttf file, then why is it the 9400's fonts that are "messed up" and not the fonts of the other 2 editors? Shouldn't it be the other way around (i.e. the 9400 fonts look fine but the fonts of the other 2 editors are "messed up")?

Anyway, do you suggest I uninstall all 3 editors and reinstall the 9400 editor?

From what you say, I suppose my problem is just environmental, and there's nothing inherently wrong with the fonts of the 9400 (I hope).

Thanks,

Randy

Well, I uninstalled - ProntoProEdit NG (for TSU7500) and ProntoEdit NG 3.1.3.0 (forTSU3000). Fonts in ProntoEdit Professional 9400 were still "messed up" (i.e. blurry and very bold). So, I reinstalled ProntoEdit Professional 9400, and the fonts are still the same state; i.e. blurry and very bold. Bitmap graphics are fine. It's just that text in buttons and labels are very hard to read. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

I still have the "hard to read font" problem I mentioned earlier. I installed ProntoEdit Professional 9400 1.1 in another PC (that didn't have older Pronto editor programs installed), and it has the same problem (fonts in text fields are hard to read). I see that ProntoEdit Professional installs Pronto.ttf in C:\WINDOWS\fonts. Pronto.ttf is 92KB and is dated 9/21/2006. Anyone have any other suggestions on how to fix this font issue?

Note that Pronto.ttf is in my C:\WINDOWS\fonts directory (Windows XP). However, from Microsoft Word, I don't see the Pronto font. Maybe ProntoEdit Professional doesn't see it either??

It could be that the computer is displaying at a resolution that is not the default for the monitor. An example would be 800x600 resolution on a 1360 x768 monitor. It Could make a lot of difference in the way text appears, like a 4x3 picture on a 16x9 screen will stretch to fit. A resolution adjustment might be needed if the problem only effects the software and not the actual display of fonts on the remote when downloaded.

That's not it. I'm using the native resolution of my monitor.

When you uninstalled all the different editors, did you delete all the Pronto fonts before reinstalling the 9400 editor? I've got 5 different Pronto fonts installed on my computer and I have no idea which belongs to what.

Alos, turning on ClearType (if you are using Windows XP) can make a big difference as to how fonts appear.

Yes, I also tried to remove all the Pronto fonts in %windir%\fonts. No luck.
I installed ProntoEdit Professional 9400 1.1 in two different PCs. The second PC didn't have any other Pronto Editors installed prior to installing ProntoEdit Professional 9400 1.1. Same problem with both PCs.

I do have ClearType turned on. The fonts in labels look really distorted and barely readable. I never had this problem with older Pronto Editors.

Not sure what is wrong. I can try installing it in a 3rd PC to see if I have the same issue. I was about ready to buy the TSU 9400, but am holding off until I resolve this issue...

Lyndel,

I know this has been covered but I cannot seem to find a quick answer. If I hack the xml and change a font color or similar, how do I combine the xml and the bitmaps back together to then have a new, workable .xcf file? I have been using WinRar and I tried sending the elements back to a .zip file but it does not seems to work. What am I missing?

Thx Dave

You are probably missing the comment that is placed in the file by Philips that states the model and version

Why not just stay in win zip? Click on what you want to change and then extract it, change it, put it back and let winzip handle the comment. It should keep it.

Can you point me to a particular place in one of the shipped 9400 XCFs where you see a funny font. I have looked around a couple of XCFs and they all look fine to me.

Dave, you are most likely missing the Zip Comment.

I have installed the TSU400 editor in a 3rd PC and I am getting the same behavior.
I actually have screen shots of how the "distorted" font looks, but not sure if there's a way to post it in this forum. The shots would better explain my issue. To summarize, with the distorted fonts, I can still barely read the text (not if it's a smaller 8 or 10 point font though). The text looks as if it is 5 times thicker than it should be (imagine if you're allowed to "bold" the text, and you hit bold 5 times).

Anyway, labels, particularly those that use black colored text, have the distorted, hard to read font. For example, if I add a panel to a page, and label the panel, the label has the "distorted" font appearance. Another example is in the "TSU9400 Demo US.xcf" file. In the "Watch My Shows - Menu/Guide" page, the "Guide" and "Menu" panels have the black distorted font. The other buttons in the same page, which uses white colored fonts, look fine.

It's hard to believe I'm the only one who ran into this problem with the 9400 editor. And I have the issue in 3 PCs! If anyone has other suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks.
