Hello. in my 12-year-old TSU9600 remote control. Several hard buttons stopped sending commands. When pressed, there is no sound signal like in the others. I disassembled my remote control into simple parts, cleaned it inside, but unfortunately it did not work . Do any of you know how to fix it? Life without the tsu 9600 is impossible so I have already bought another used remote control ... but I would like to fix this one . Darek
I am a user from the very beginning of this forum. Nice to see after 12 years that old users are still here like Lowpro, Lynde, Barry and the others. You're still having fun with the best remote in the world .

If it's software related perhaps a full firmware update would help. Instructions provided below.

How to initiate a full firmware update?

In some rare occasions it might occur that the software
on the device goes corrupt even preventing one from doing
a firmware update. In such case, follow the steps below in
order to enforce a full firmware update:

Start the firmware updater.

Undock the TSU9600 and press the Next button.

On the next screen press the Troubleshoot buttton.

Place the TSU9600 into the docking and wait for the Repair
button to enable itself.

Now reset the control panel by pressing the key combination:
Page +, Home and Menu simultaneously immediately followed
by the next step.

Within 2 seconds set the firmware update flag by pressing
the following key combination for 2 seconds: Firmkey 2,
Firmkey 3 and Firmkey 4 (below the LCD) simultaneously.
The control panel will now start up showing a dialog
saying: "Application Firmware Download mode, normal
operation not possible".

Finally press te Repair button and wait for the update
to finish.

And yes, my beloved Pronto Professional TSU9600 remotes and RFX9600 Serial Extenders are still the only game in town. Pronto for the win, baby! :-P

If the full firmware reload does not work and you have the unit apart, you can use the small eraser from a mechanical pencil to clean the gold contacts on the circuit board where the button pads bridge the gap to contact. Also, you can lightly use the eraser on the button pads themselves.

That repair kit likely has some black carbon film in liquid form. I don't think you can use that on the buttons themselves as they are a plastic/metal combination I think.

I would look for a remote on ebay with a broken screen or something that you can swap out the whole button unit with. Note that if your 9600 has a metal scroll wheel, I don't think you can swap buttons with a unit that has a plastic scroll wheel as I think they changed slightly.

I'm not sure what you'd be prepared to pay, but there's an Australian seller on eBay with a stock of new TSU9800s - I've had two. No 9600s that I can see at present.

Unfortunately, buying on Australian ebay is not an option, I would pay too much for the shipment and of course the tax. Attempting to use the pilot repair kit did not work. How are photos inserted here on the forum because I have no idea.
