I just got a (2009) Sony DVD/CD carousel player. It holds 400 DVDs or CDs. I can't see any way to tell the player that I want to play the disc that is in a given slot. All I see in the User Manual is how one can scroll up or down in the list of discs and then click on the desired disc in the list.

Does anyone know how I can enter the slot number to have it play that particular disc?

It's not that simple unfortunately. For direct disc selection you have to send the Sony BDP-CX7000ES a DISC_DIRECT_SET command using RS-232 or IP control. I outline the RS-232 control for the Sony BDP-CX7000ES in detail here. In the second post of that thread I provide an excel sheet. The excel sheet details all the RS-232 commands, both for general control of the changer and for playing a given disc from each of the 400 changer slots. The RS-232 commands (and IR codes) are also available via my PEP v1.1.20 configuration file as seen here. I provide a download link to my configuration file at the bottom of the first post in the thread found here.

So yes, RS-232 or IP control is your only option short of sorting by Slot Number within the Sony XMB interface, then scolling up or down until you find the slot number you're looking for. I own 15 of the Sony BDP-CX7000ES 400-disc Blu-ray Players myself. I use them in conjunction with my Pronto Professional TSU9600 remote, Philips RFX9600 Serial Extender and Digital Loggers SS20 20-Port Serial Switch. That being said, with my PEP v1.1.20 configuration file I did integrate the ability to quickly enter the slot number you want, then having the Pronto send the particular RS-232 command to the changer. It works beautifully. (See here for more details on that where I also cover how I catalog my collection and browse for something to watch.) And I'll tell you what. If you're controlling your Sony BDP-CX7000ES with a Pronto TSU9x00 remote I'd be happy to integrate the same ability within your own configuration file. You'd just need to acquire a Philips RFX9600 serial extender and the proper serial cable at that point. Well, if you don't have those things already. Anyway, just let me know.

I have the TSU7500. It's my third Pronto unit; my first was the TSU6000 and my second was the TSU7000. I have always assumed that IR codes would be available for every command that my hardware needed.

I just purchased the Sony BDP-CX7000ES (because I wanted 4K quality). My previous DVD/CD carousel was the Sony DVP-CX875P which held 200 discs. I had no problem programming the Pronto Pro once I found the IR codes for 'DISC SELECT' and 'DISC ENTER'. Worked like a charm.

Your solution is totally different from what I expected. To be honest, I am really ignorant of "RS-232" or "IP" control. I don't know what that means. I read through your approach and it seems so complex.

Are you saying that there are no IR codes for 'DISC SELECT' and 'DISC ENTER' on the Sony BDP-CX7000ES?

I just find that so hard to believe.

With Sony's 400-disc DVD Players you can send a pre-determined sequence of IR codes to select any given changer slot. That's possible of course, because the same can be done manually from the graphic user interface (GUI) of the changer itself. Unfortunately, Sony's 400-disc Blu-ray Players don't provide an option from the GUI (Sony XMB) to key in the slot number you want. That's why direct disc selection can only be done using RS-232 or IP control.

The Sony DVP-CX777ES 400-disc DVD Player has a serial port as well. With the 777ES you can do both. You can use a pre-determined sequence of IR codes or send the changer the particular RS-232 command instead. Thankfully Sony carried over the RS-232 functionality with the Sony BDP-CX7000ES. Sadly, neither the Sony BDP-CX960 or BDP-CX7000ES provide for direct disc selection using IR as that same functionality isn't available within the GUI (Sony XMB). Yes, it's hard to believe. I'm still shaking my head.

RS232 or TCP/IP does not help you if you are not using the Pro Remote line that supports RFX9600 and ProntoScript.

Hey Len. If you're interested in upgrading to a Philips Pronto Professional TSU9600 remote and Philips RFX9600 Serial Extender let me know. I have a number of spare remotes and extenders. I could part with one of each. Well, for a price. I could hook you up with a serial cable as well and transition your TSU7500 configuration file over for use with the TSU9600. In the process I could integrate my activity for controlling the Sony BDP-CX7000ES which has a "Direct Disc Selection" option built-in. You just select the "Direct Disc Selection" option, enter the "Slot Number" you want and hit "Enter". The remote then sends a RS-232 command to the changer telling it to play the disc that resides in the changer slot you entered. It's that simple. :-P
