Hi all.

My Musical Fidelity amp's volume adjustment works, but lacks the sensitivity for me to control it as I'd like - it moves up and down too much, so sometimes the only options are slightly too loud, slightly too quiet or get up and adjust it manually. Clearly this won't do...

I've managed to add some sensitivity by reducing the transmit duration in PEP2, but even reducing it to the smallest figure the issue is still there. I gather that there is a duration element built in to hex codes, and was wondering if anyone could suggest how I might try progressively shortening it in these two:

Vol +

0000 006D 0000 0018 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0D2F

Vol -

0000 006D 0000 0018 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0D2F

Been meaning to look at this for a while, and I guess whilst we're confined to home in the UK now's as good a time as any!

Thanks in advance. (I did look at another thread on here but it left me slightly confused as to how I might apply it!)

This reminds me of an issue in the TSU7000 days where Sony codes had issues on very short presses. A typical sony code has no one-shot data, only repeat data.

This is Vol- edited to have both one-shot and repeat IR code data.

0000 006D 0018 0018 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0D2F 0018 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0D2F

If this makes the code work better, repeat the pattern for Vol+

Will give that a bash, many thanks.

EDIT: PEP2 thinks that's an invalid code - any ideas?

Doh!!!!

I should not have copied the 2nd 0018 (the repeat counter in hex = 24 pairs) and pasted to the data.

Here's the valid edit.

0000 006D 0018 0018 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0D2F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0D2F

Hi Lyndel.

Thanks for that, though alas that code is moving the volume setting by more than the old one rather than less. And that's with the duration set at 0.02s, so not much scope for a shorter transmit time.

It's frustrating, but I wonder whether I am just going to have to live with it - the previous amp could be adjusted in 0.5dB increments, so I'm used to that degree of control!

I want to find out what it takes to get a single increment.

Set the duration of the code to 'Default'. This duration should be fine as your code now has both one-shot and repeat data.

Next, test whether the code sends only 1 transmission. To do this, put a 0.1s delay right after the code in the button. This will make the button execute as one-shot as the delay makes this a macro rather than a repeated press.

Thanks.

OK, will give those a bash too. Many thanks for sharing your knowledge and for your patience!

EDIT: That still seems to move the volume control about twice as much as the old code.

Sorry it took me so long to see this.

I see what the problem is. The problem may be that the original code data was repeated 2 times.

Try this one and post back if it works. I hope it will but IRScrutiner fails to decode it.

0000 006D 000C 000C 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F

If it works as I hope it will, it should move the volume up/down exactly 1 time.

I simply got rid of the 2nd part (bolded below) and decreased the count from 24 (0018) to 12 (000C)

0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 052F 0030 0010 0010 0030 0030 0010 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0030 0010 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0030 0010 0D2F

Note that the original code we started with reports F12 protocol from IRScrutiner.
F12: {D=5,F=4,S=1}, beg=0, end=47, reps=1

If above works, here's a New Vol +

Thanks for trying - we're still where we were originally though. I'm guessing that must be the smallest increment that the amp can make.

Thanks again for your efforts though!

Found a way around this - helped by the fact that the amp was at rib-rattling volume by half way around the dial. I bought some Rothwell Attenuators, which don't seem to affect the audio signal at all but reduce amplitude by 10dB (15 & 20 also available) so I now use more of the dial, but the part I am using is spread over a larger amount of the dial - and the smallest increment is now where I want it to be.

Thanks for trying again though!
