Just got an NVIDIA Shield Pro (2019). It doesn't have an IR receiver. It only supports bluetooth. For those interested, I was able to use a Flirc USB to control it with a Pronto TSU9400. Below is more information:

Interesting. I had similar thoughts about using a FLIRC and managed to get it working with HomeAssistant (hass.io) on a raspberry pi.

Using Home Assistant means you can control pretty much anything that can be added and in theory even kick of automations to do multiple tasks with a single IR code.

I got it working bit never got round to completing the setup must remember to get it up and running again.
