Hello, remote people.

I did a search for this, so I hope I didn't miss it if this has been covered, but here's the question.

I have a TSU 9400. The PEP software is on an old Dell laptop that I keep ONLY for working on the remote. I want to get rid of the Dell and begin working on my MacBook. Is it true that PEP only works in Windows? If so:

Will I need to partition the MacBook hard drive, install Windows, then install PEP?

And then, how do I get all the files and galleries to the new computer?

Thanks,

Ed

PEP will only work on a Windows OS as it uses DLLs that are windows-specific.

I would recommend for the least amount of issues that youtry and install a 32-bit version of the Windows OS. Others have discussed Windows 7 64 bit here and this may be related to PEP1 only as it was a standard C/C++ program whereas PEP2 is C Sharp in .NET.

I don't recommend Windows 10 or Windows 8. I don't even use Windows 8.1. However, I do know some who do use 8.1. I personally have Windows 7 but don't have PEP on that machine. For PEP/PEP2, I am currently running a desktop with 32 bit XP SP3.

I too have a TSU-9400. I use a 2012 Mac Mini with Windows 7 installed via VMware. Works perfectly fine for programming and downloading to the TSU-9400.

I highly recommend going that route. As you don't have to shut down your Mac OS just to boot up into Windows 7.

I am using PEP 3 on a MacBook Pro with Parallels (most current version) and Windows 8.1. Seems to work fine other than the Help file will not open. I have used Parallels since it was first introduced. I really like it.

Hi,

Currently, I'm using PEP and my TSU9400's on an old MacBook Air that has 64-bit Windows 7 on a boot camp partition. This old MacBook Air is near its end of life so I am replacing it with a late 2016 MacBook Pro. I am running VMWare Fusion in it.

Question is: do I install a virtual Windows 7 or Windows 10? I prefer Windows 10, but how hard is it to get PEP to work in Windows 10?

Does anyone have notes to share on what it took for Windows 10? I saw this and another thread, but not much info on what is needed to get PEP or work in Windows 10.

THANKS.

Wasn't there something called Tonto that could possibly do this? I also only need windows for my pronto pro. I don't want to have to setup parallels again on my mac just for the pronto. Any other solutions?

Tonto was only for the Classic Prontos using standard COM ports and not USB.

So is there any way of programming a Pronto on a mac? I have tried "wine" & a few other programs. It does work with parallels but I don't want to waste 50GB of my ssd just to program the pronto. Is there another small install of windows that may work?

Success! I was able to transfer use of PEP 2 (version 2.4.23.0) from my 5 year old MacBook Air running Windows 7 (natively, via Bootcamp) to my new MacBook Pro using VMware Fusion 8.5 and Windows 10 Home.

Below are the details in case someone has a need to do something similar in the future:

1. Installed VMware Fusion 8.5
2. Installed Windows 10 using VMWare Fusion's Easy Install approach (by default, it allocates 1 CPU core and 2GB of memory - these seem fine for PEP2. The disk space used by the Windows 10 Home install in my Mac was about 20GB, and I was pleasantly surprised it wasn't as much as I thought it would be).
3. Install .NET Framework 3.5. It may be best to do this first. Otherwise, the
PEP setup will fail and Windows will popup a dialog box saying you need
.NET).
4. Run PEP setup.
5. PEP setup will run and seem to be stuck and never finish. If so,
you need to stop the Windows ProntoDataService service (found this on another thread). This was a bit of a pain for me to stop since I was running the PEP setup as a Standard User instead of an Administrator, and the Windows services window doesn't have a way to stop as an administrator. So, I did the following:

To stop the ProntoDataService, start Task Manager as an Administrator by typing "Task Manager" in the Windows bottom-left search window. When you see the Task Manager in the menu, right-click and select "Run as administrator".
Then, look for ProntoDataService and stop it.

6. The stuck PEP setup will continue to run and then finish. The ProntoDataService will restart automatically.

7. While PEP is not running, I transferred some files from my old Mac to the new one. Make sure your Explorer setup is configured to show hidden files. I transferred these files:

C:\ProgramData\Philips\ProntoEdit Professional 2\ProntoScripts\*
C:\ProgramData\Philips\ProntoEdit Professional 2\Libraries\*
C:\ProgramData\Philips\Common Database\componentdatabase.db (this probably wasn't necessary since I think PEP will load the components in your XCF file to the database when you first open it; but, I did this anyway ahead of
time just in case).... There is also a backup/restore functionality for the database which I didn't try.
C:\Users\\Documents\Pronto Projects\* (this contained my XCF files)

Since I never customized the Gallery, I didn't bother transferring C:\ProgramData\Philips\ProntoEdit Professional 2\ProntoScripts\Gallery

Initially, when I tried to download a configuration to my TSU9400, it failed giving me an "HID not found..." error. But I don't think this error is related to Windows 10 (I used to get this in older Windows occasionally too). I powered off and on my TSU9400 and then I was able to download to it just fine.

There was one issue that is new in Windows 10 that I didn't have in Windows 7.
If I click on Tools->Options… then I click on Close, I get an Unhandled exception error dialog box (the Details of the error says it is due to “parameter is incorrect” for some callback). When I get this error dialog box, I just click Continue to move on. Fortunately, this error doesn’t seem to affect any functionality and you can proceed to work with PEP.

Now, at least I have two machines that can run PEP. I wanted to make sure I can get it going in my new Mac.
