The Denon DVD2900 has a 2.5 m/m remote jack int he rear (well its a pair marked remote in and out) but I cannot get this to function as a 2.5 m/m remote jack with the 9400. When plugged in it disables the IR reception at the front but does not respond to wired commands.

Anyone got this working???

I had the same problem, it doesn't work, but it does work when passed from a Denon receiver. So I did: RFX9600->AVR4306->DVD3910. One more note, it also doesn't respond when the rs232 port is connected.

Perhaps you should put a "stereo" jack instead of mono. Maybe that IR input jack is supposed to actually receive an IR received with stereo minijack. This is the same case with the Escient IR input. You need to use a stereo mini-jack for it to work. Sometimes there is the so called -modulated- and -unmodulated- IR input. There are case for example that the IR input only works through a companys' product line. The best way for you to be sure that the IR input on a specific product does work, is to have a small test bench with and IR block connector with an IR receiver (Xantech, Russound, Elan - any will do) and use from the IR emmiter out a jack to (rca, mono mini, stereo mini or whatever) and plug it in the equipment. From there you will be able to see whether IR is actually transmited succesfully to the unit.

OK - it gets more interesting now... Denon 2900 is now working with the jack plug cable. BUT whenever I send the OFF command to the Denon via the 9400 if locks the unit - if its playing a disk it will carry on playing but the display will freeze and you cannot send any other commands???? Have tried to rerecord the off command, same problem. Taken the Denon off command from another file from this forum, same problem HELP!

I have a similar problem with an Onkyo TX-SR700E amp - Everything sems to be working via the 9400 mini jack cable, EXCEPT ON - and it just refuses to turn on - tried rerecording etc, no joy!!!

This is driving me mad - anyone have any ideas? tried the stereo plug idea, no difference. Thanks for the suggestions thus far.

For the Off command, I would suggest changing the IR output to LOW on the RFX and see if that fixes the problem for the specific jack you have the DVD player. In regard to your other problem, with Yamaha, sometimes you need to press the ON command twice in order for them to switch on (via RS232 or IR Input) so usually I test by putting a screen with Power commands where I have each devices' power in case something does not switch On or Off. Try Pushing the Power ON yourself and see if it works. Have you tried the Power ON directly via IR from the remote instead from the RFX and it works? If not try it to confirm the command works.

The other case is that when the received turns off you cannot turn it back on from the IR input. This silly thing was implement on RS232 control on some old modeled Pioneer Plasmas where you could switch the Plasma Off but not On because when it was off the RS232 chip was "dead" in a sense or something like that.

One last comment is that I had a similar problem with a Nevo unit and a Dreambox 500 satellite received. I learned the codes on the remote and I was sending directly to the Dreambox and it would work. When I placed it via a Nevolink (something like the RFX9400) the commands wouldn't work. I eventually fixed the issue by finding out from the Nevo Database the IR commands for the Dreambox and it did work. Thus my final suggestion is that if your commands are "learned" try and searching the database of Pronto Edit Professional and I am certain you will find a compatible one. Then substitute your learned commands with the ones from the database and probably your thingy will work.. It works beautifully when it works. But you need to know some tricks to make it work better :)
