Does anyone know if Philips is planning on letting the scroll ring around the cursor buttons be used for custom programming in the future?

It's in the process of activating as well as an RS232 port on the RFX9400. Philips is really making a leap with their new range. I don't know though when they will be released. I am under the impression that both the TSU9400 and TSU9600 will support the ring. The issue is that there is really not much of a use if you don't use it for scrolling. Using it as a Volume Controller is a HUGE mistake. Someone might slide it all the way right and blow a pretty expensive system.

I have a new front end that I designed that resembles the OS/X icon bar that would be perfect for the jog ring. I would also like to use it for scrolling up and down the categories for my favorites icons on XM and DirecTV.

Scrolling or a DVD Jog/Shuttle, or Mac icon bar like functionality are ideal use cases.

I posted something about this. The only thing you'd be able to get are click left/right. There's on concept of a value as the physical implementation is LED/Optocoupler.

Here is a screen shot of the new front end I would love to control via scroll ring.

I am going to change those three smaller buttons with the logos to larger ones that go across the bottom in the empty space. You can get an idea of what I want to do though.

Right now, you can use the five hard buttons to select a category and the page + and - also let you scroll through them.

Using the ring would be really cool and i would incorporate it into other pages as well. I made an XM channel menu that shows the channel name and number so you can view the entire channel lineup on the remote. If you use the stylus and select any line of text on the list, it will dial that station automatically.

You also have a page with large icons for your favorites.

Yeah, and with the possibility to use new audio servers using prontoscript, the jog would be useful.
