Hi!

Suddenly one day my TSU9600 started lagging, or freeze for moments. Hardkeys seem to work better than the touchscreen but still lags. It sometimes work perfectly but those times are rare and few now. It can flash up a low battery warning even though the controller was just charged and I thought a bad battery was a contributing factor to the misbehavior. Swapped it for a new one but to no avail, it still lags, freezes and hangs.

Tried reprogramming it, tried flashing the new beta firmware as well as the last official one, no change. Any ideas..?

Did you do what is known as full/complete firmware reload? (Requires pressing Firm 2 + Firm 3 + Firm 4 within 2-10 seconds after reboot).

Try that if you have not done so. That will hopefully correct the issue but I cannot say that 100% as I have to wonder if this was not caused by programming added to the unit.

With regard to "suddenly one day", what changed in your configuration that one day?

Are you using System.delay() in ProntoScript? Are you using onMove() for buttons in ProntoScript? Are you using large images for which you specify that image be resized on a widget? Are you using dynamic widgets that you are not properly destroying? Are you doing serial.recieve() or serial.match() in a loop without using scheduleAfter()?

These are just some of the items off the top of my head that could make the unit operate "sluggishly".

Thanks for the tip, I'll try complete firmware reload later.

No, I didn't change anything in the configuration, it's been complete and doing it's duty for months now. The configuration controls a bunch of units but doesn't do anything too advanced, except JS state tracking.

How to initiate a full firmware update?

In some rare occasions it might occur that the software on the device goes corrupt even preventing one from doing a firmware update. In such case, follow the steps below in order to enforce a full firmware update:

Start the firmware updater.

Undock the TSU9600 and press the Next button.

On the next screen press the Troubleshoot buttton.

Place the TSU9600 into the docking and wait for the Repair
button to enable itself.

Now reset the control panel by pressing the key combination:
Page +, Home and Menu simultaneously immediately followed by the next step.

Within 2 seconds set the firmware update flag by pressing the following key combination for 2 seconds: Firmkey 2, Firmkey 3 and Firmkey 4 (below the LCD) simultaneously. The control panel will now start up showing a dialog saying: "Application Firmware Download mode, normal operation not possible".

Finally press the Repair button and wait for the update to finish.

Hi guys!

Did the full reset as described so excellently above.
The panel came back to life and told me to do a calibration. The screen responded instantly and said Calibration Successful. So far, so good. The demo software then appeared and things were as broken as ever. Sometimes a button would respond instantly, other times it would go to its depressed-state and just stay there, like I was holding my finger on it.
For instance, after a lot of touch-screen-touching I finally got into settings. Swapping between General / Screen / Info is as snappy as ever with the Page +/- buttons, but with the touch-screen it's just painful. Seems every 30 touch is registered. It would lead me to believe that the touchscreen is broken, has intermittent connection or is just plain worn out, but that doesn't explain the times it hangs for minutes without responding to anything or when it says "low battery" and hangs for minutes even though the battery is new and fully charged.

Any other ideas?

Sounds like it is time to have the remote serviced. Link action below if you live in North America per having the remote serviced.
