In my home there are now three wireless access points. They are strategically located in the ceilings of the three major areas. However I may have wasted money or just started a money pit in that the Pronto PRO does not seem to roam well.

It seems to lock onto a single WAP unit and then no matter how you walk around and how bad the signal gets (including total loss) it will not hunt and switch to a better signal from a different WAP. There is no way I know of to force it to search for a WAP, other than perhaps a reboot via a power cycle, and even then it some how seems to like the WAP it was on. I can force it for sure by powering down all of the WAP's except the one I want it to talk to and the power cycling the Pronto. UGHHH

Of course the other solution, the money pit solution, is to buy two more pronto's and keep then in the room they are used in. Maybe Philips is a lot "Smarter" than I gave them credit for.

Any comments on this would be appreciated! I looked into repeaters off a single WAP, but that halves the available bandwidth i.e. 54 goes down to 27 on a g network due to the retransmission traffic

This has been discussed before. I'm not sure what to search for though.

Currently your only option is to reset the remote. This has been discussed before and I'm pretty sure Philips is aware of the issue. I think this came up during the beta test actually. It may have been discussed here in the forums as well. If so and I run across said post I'll throw up a link.

Thanks guys. I guess I will just let my contact at Pronto know the issue as a "Nag"

Thanks. Found it. I am not too happy that in the last 6 months this has not been addressed. I suspect it is not a firmware soluble issue.

I also tested it with three WAP's, and only when he losses the signal, he connected to the WAP with the best signal.

I am very disappointed with the wireless wifi. I have decided that the best solution if at all possible is a single powerful WAP and not multiples if that can be achieved. I have a commercial unit coming and will report on my success with it.

It seems that PC's with built in wireless systems have the best receiver performance because of the antenna which generally goes up the screen.

I have also been told that Crestron tells its installers that the best situation is with a wap in every room there is a crestron remote so that the remote locks onto that wap. They also have settings for very aggressive roaming which alters the behavior of when it tries to reacquire an access point, or so I am told.

I solved my cell phone problem because the ex GF asked me to. Her cell phone was her life, hence an ex GF. I am the only house in the neighborhood with a constant 4 bars in every room. it just took a little monetary outlay. Prior conditions was 0-1 bar in some rooms only.

The Pronto sitting directly under a ceiling mounted WAP (12 feet away) only gets 3 bars on its widget. My laptop reports maximum signal strength at the same point.

hi

I think i wrote it here before, There is no way Philips Tsu9600 will do roaming like a laptop.

If i understand right it's hardware problem.

The only close solution is, a system command, that will restore wifi connection, so the CP will take few seconds to search for other AP.
programmer will be able to run a "macro like AP Search" each time user changes zone in the remote.

by the way, I couldnt get the pronto work with wireless repeaters, tried to use
Linksys WAP54G, my laptop could get full signal but the pronto wouldnt connect to my linksys Ap.

any suggestions?
