I am trying to get a definitive answer on this... I have an Escient MX111 and a Pronto 9600. The Escient is hardwired into my network and has been assigned a static IP address. Do I still need a RFX9400 or a RFX9600 in order to have the Escient work with my remote, or will the remote get the Escient data via my network wireless router?

My dealer told me that I MUST have the RFX9400. From reading some of the various posts on this site, it seems as though I do not.

Thank you.

You don't need either extender to communicate with the Escient. The TSU9600 communicates with the Escient directly via TCP/IP. The extenders are not used to relay TCP/IP traffic. The RFX9400 is only used to send IR codes via its 4 addressable IR ports and the RFX9600 is used to send IR in addition to power sensing, relays, and RS-232.

Just to state the obvious you will however require some sort of wireless access point to get your TSU9600 on to said network.

FYI the 9600's onscreen interface will not follow along with the MX111's onscreen interface. That is to say the menu on the tv will not be controlled by the 9600 while in the 9600's escient IP interface. If you wish to have full control over your MX111 you will also need traditional IR or 232 based device page(s) due to the fact that only basic commands are supported from the Escient IP interface on the 9600. Functions like entering and exiting Jukebox mode creating playlists etc. are not supported within the built in IP based GUI.

You could of course use the Escient supplied remote for these tasks but that sort of defeats the purpose of a "universal" remote in the first place IMHO.

Also keep in mind that since the TSU9600 will need to be configured for wireless to communicate with the Escient you'll also have to run any RFX9400 extenders you might also have (which are not used for Escient control) in Network Mode, otherwise they won't be able to communicate with the TSU9600 as well.

Thanks to everyone for their responses... I already have an AudioPlex IR Kit installed to give me remote access to my equipment and I didn't want to add either RFX "only" for the Escient. I already have a wireless access point hooked up to my Escient.

A different twist on this... if the Escient were to be hardwired to my wireless router, that would be fine too, correct? I could then still access the Escient through my TSU9600 via the wireless router's wired connection... right?

Yes. The TSU9600 communicates with your wireless router and the wireless router takes it from there. Your router doesn't care how the Escient is connected to your network. It's going to send and receive IP traffic from the Escient in either case.

Doesn't the Escient IP interface support Jukebox mode and playlists, or doesn't the TSU9600 GUI support Jukebox mode & playlists? Is this something you could create with ProntoScript?

Dennis.

The IP interface for Escient, I believe supports creation of playlists. You might be able to do something like this in ProntoScript. The TSU9600 currently does not support creation of playlists.

This is something for the 'wish list' for the Pronto team, or even better, the 'to do' list :-)

It would seem to me that trying to build a playlist or perform other more advanced functions would be much better suited to using your PC or the onscreen interface on your TV. Not a 3.7" screen. Geting meta data, cover art, and song/artist lists makes sense. Think of it like an iPOD you don't manage your library, import music, or create playlists from the iPOD itsef.

Find a PC or MAC type in the Escient IP or Name and voila'

I think the webinterface is not really competition for any PC interface to bulid playlists... why is there no software, which helps us complete this.

The other way to create playlists would be by using the jukebox mode and adding to the list , storing it as a playlist thereafter.-...
