The examples are available for certified installers. The Prontoscript Developer's Guide is not availabe yet, but will be made available to Pronto Professionals very soon.

I am a certied installer, but with my password I am not able to enter in the professional area. Last week I was able but this week no. It is very strange....
I saw the examples but there are no details informations about them.
I have an Escient system and I tried to use the standard new device of the update release set up for the dvd movies. Some times the cover of the Dvd doesn't refresh in the page while the info of the Dvd are correct. The module is not working properly in my opinion.
It is strange that a company like Philips release an ufficial software update without any examples, info and help for the software. Generally when you release a package that is not a beta one, the package should be completed.....

Yeah, but should they let everyone wait for a documents for a few? I think it's great that they released the software already. Else we still had nothing.

I have determined that the older "professional" signups do not seem to allow proper access to all areas of the new installer areas. I signed up again and received a new access code. Once I put in the access code Philips gave me and re-registered, I now have access to all of the areas.

The Dev Guide had to be sent to legal prior to official release. That takes time as lawyers are involved. The docs contain some reference links that I'm sure needed clearance.

FYI, I uploaded 2 ProntoScript games which Daniel quickly published. If you are so inclined, download them and learn by example. Note that these games don't utilize TCP or RS-232 functionality but do provide examples of how to do animation and Widget manipulation.

I previously downloaded the modules they have available on the professional installer site. I have to admit that the code there, although I completely understood what was going on, did not illustrate in simple terms how to utilize the various objects. For example, the Denon module pops up and hides a widgets for volume control to indicate current volume. The way that they did this, although it works, was somewhat complex.

With the scripts I published, I'm trying to show some baseline concepts but also include JavaScript Object-Oriented-Like constructs using Javascript Prototypes. That's why, in my functions, you will see me reference "this.xxx" where "this." refers to the current instance of the object as the Prototype in JavaScript acts as like a Java "super" class.

No matter what, you are going to have a bit of a learning curve. If you don't know Javascript, start learning. If you don't know about the E4X (ECMA for XML) ECMA-357 extensions, I highly recommend downloading the PDF from the web as developing an RSS reader is MUCHO simpler if you know how to query for data using the XML data model.

I've also written an RSS reader for Yahoo Weather (looks like tables on their HTML pages + includes Moon Data from Yahoo Weather Widget) but I am unable to publish it because the images and some I used in my module were straight from Yahoo with little or no modification. Yahoo has copyright notices for both images, XML rss feeds, and javascript such that they cannot be republished without express written permission. I'm not willing to cross that bridge just yet.

Thanks Lyndel, for the clear explanations. When I bought my first Pronto was about 4 years ago. At the begin, was very difficult to understand it, but with examples and other confifurations file I understood how to work with it. I am full agree that you need a learning curve and some time to spend with it.
But at that time there was material to work, examples that you can download ect ect.
In the case of Prontoscript it is very difficult to find it, a lot of people is taking about but I have not seen until now in INTERNET any program made unless the few examples in the professial area of the Philips web without any explanation. Understand me, is like a toy that I would like to play with but at the moment I don't know where to start.
I hope that the guide will be released soon, so many other customers of Philips will really start to enjoy this new update.
Thanks,
Riccardo

How about developing environment? What is the preferred way to develop & debug ProntoScript modules?

I copy/paste scripts between MS Dev Studio (with JSLint as external tool) and Pro Editor. However, you might want to check out Barry Gordon's utility that reads an XCF, extracts scripts, and puts them as files in folders. The utility will then reassemble them into an XCF. Just search this forum for the latest thread by Barry Gordon and you should find what you are looking for.
