I can use/see my 9600 on my wireless network but it shows up as blank in my DHCP Table under "Client Host Name". I realize the remote can easily be recognized by its MAC address but was wondering if it was possible to assign a host name to it. If so, how? Thanks.

There is no place in the editor to specify this entry so therefore, I don't think it can be done. Also, the config file does not contain any entries inside for such information.

Why not use static DHCP and asign a hostname?

Lyndel / sWORDs, thanks for the response. To answer your question sWORDs, I feel that would defeat the purpose; it would be nice to have the device have a name when it appears on the network and not the other way around.

I agree that a host name would be nice, not necessary but nice. I hope the Pronto team is keeping a list.

Need to send an email to get things on a list. They do monitor this forum but scanning every message for requirements is a daunting job. They definitely do monitor email.

So what you want is to be able to see a hostname in the active dhcp clients table, this is what you would get using static dhcp and assigning hostnames. Further more, you always get the same ip for those devices, which should make things a lot easier. All devices not mentioned will still get an ip by DHCP.

Hi,
Is possible to use a DNS server or include some entrys in the localhost file (other hosts in the net) to make things easier.
This way, you can access the TSU by name, not by IP Address.

Ok ?

sWORDs, thanks for the detailed (and quite neat) post/answer. I did not realize that devices not mentioned still get an IP by DHCP. However, what I meant by "defeating the purpose" is that a device should have a name of its own that automatically shows up from the device when appearing into a network. Your solution is elegant but the name is actually assigned by the network admin person for a given device after having identified the device. If, for example, one individual had two or three (or more) TSU9600, it would be nice to have a host name appear automatically as (potentially) assigned at the factory (but user controlled of course) for each of the TSU9600. Note I am not trying to discredit your suggestion but I would prefer if the name came from the device (rather than the other way around). Hopefully, this makes sense to you...
