I'm using a TSU9600 with latest firmware (v7.3.3) and PEP2.4. I'm trying to increase the height of the virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen that correspond to the firm keys, in order to use larger (more visible) labels on them.

When I try to edit the firm key properties to enlarge the graphics, the size of the on-screen button doesn't change. The graphic gets enlarged, but then it is cropped back to the original button size, as though it is just zooming in on a section of the graphic.

Is there some other way to do this, or is it not possible to change the size of these button graphics for the firm key labels?

I do not believe you can change their size, but you could overlay them with buttons that look identical and are taller but have the same actions as the corresponding firmkey in case they are touched. Visually you will not be able to tell the difference

Barry,
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try.

I don't use PEP v2 myself, but checked quickly to confirm. Not sure what you're doing wrong, but I can't replicate your issue. Per PEP v2 simply access the "System\FirmKey Properties\Appearance" tab. Select the released state, then press the "Add Image" button. Once adding the image select the "Use Original Size" button, then repositioning the firmkey accordingly. Make sure to add the appropriate image for the pressed state as well of course.

Lowpro,
I just figured out what I was doing wrong. I needed to change the Y coordinate for the larger buttons. Without that, it was just shoving the extra part of the buttons off the bottom of the screen. By reducing the Y value, the buttons move up into full view, and everything works fine. However, the larger firm key buttons require tweaking most of the activity pages, otherwise part of the page covers up the extra portion of the buttons.

Yeah, the position of the firmkey is not going to change on its own. Glad you figured it out.

You could simply create dynamic widgets on each page, load up their images, and then have them do something like:

assuming variable with widget is userFirm1.

userFirm1.onPress = function()
{
// when this button is pressed, it executes the real firm1.
// note that this approach will not allow press and hold (repeating ir) functionality.
GUI.widget('PS_FIRM1').scheduleActions();
}
