Hello People, i never had any issues with Wifi and pronto before, but it seems like almost all my latest pronto installations are causing me a hassle with range and security. I think the new N routers are not fully compatible. A lot of times I get the signal bar with the "?" on it, so I have to turn the remote off, wait a little bit and turn it back on. Also, new Wap securitry is not well recognized, I have to use WEP everytime.

One more question, when use multiple access points, i can be a few inches from the access point and the pronto is still getting the very low signal from the furthest access point it first connected, I already played with the advanced wireless tabs to make it refresh every x minutes but no luck. Everytime I move from one place to the other I have to turn the pronto off and make it connect to the nearest AP again.

Fred,

I am not intending to flame you or upset you in any way with this response. Just asking for a bit more info.

I think it might help if you would post relevant information such as router vendor, model, and firmware installed. N router support can be problematic as there are many different interpretations of specifications that may be had by different vendors/development teams. Also WPA is limited to certain types of WPA.

Also, what firmware is on the Prontos? What PEP version is in use?

Roaming for the pronto was never really intended. Some here have put a button on the system page over the wifi icon that will toggle wifi on/off to force a reconnect to different access point.

Try a search on wifiEnabled and I think you will find one of those hits.

Here's a link to start...

Welcome to "Home on the Range" That is where the Buffalos roam but not the Prontos.

In my home there is a Pronto in every room and some very powerful WAP devices; mainly due to the house's construction. I probably could get away with a single powerful WAP, and then the Prontos would Pseudo Roam.

I am not sure exactly what is the firmware version, but its the latest. For the tsu's the rfx9600 and also im using the latest pep2.

The first router I tries was the classic linksys wrt54gs. Terrible range. So i installed another linksys range extender. It helps, but the pronto does not roam automatically. I have to shut if off and on again, and doing that sometimes it comes back with the " ? " symbol sometimes. I just purchased a dlink xtreme double N with 3 antennas and also bought a 7db gain antenna to replace the originals. I will keep you posted so you guys can help me further on. Thank you very much
