Hi:

I recently got a TSU9600 and am in the process of getting all the codes entered for my gear. Unfortunately, I've run into a problem in that when I try to teach it new codes, it works very inconsistently. Entering the same code twice can give me drastically different results, e.g. 36 sets of 4 hex codes one time, and 850 the next time. I've tried downloading some of the codes from the download section here, but that didn't get me all the ones I need. (The codes for a Sony DVP-CX995P set to #3 largely don't work.)

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the 9600 to learn reliably? I've tried covering things to hopefully keep out any stray IR signals, but that hasn't made any difference. I've got the original remotes for all of my gear, but so far the most reliable way has been to use my old Sony RM-AC2000 as an intermediate step. And that hasn't been all that reliable a method either.

Help! :-}

Follow the same tips for learning that are in the NG FAQ as well as the Classic Pronto FAQ. And, as for any Sony DVD codes, why don't you just import my CCF that has all codes for all Sony DVD changers. It can be found in the Classic Pronto Files Section.

Thanks Lyndel! I'll check them out. One of the problems I see with this site, is that ther is so MUCH information, it can be hard knowing where to even start. :-} For some reason, I've never gotten use to checking FAQs first. A bad habit I really need to break one of these days.

Thanks again!

Lyndel:

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction! Your codes worked great and the FAQ pointed out one of my mistakes - not holding the button down until the Pronto beeps. That at least seems to work for the Sony stuff although I had to go look for codes for my Yamaha receiver because nothing I've tried has worked to get those codes to be learned properly. But I found the ones I needed in the Classic area so I don't need to learn them. :-)

Now, if I could just figure a simple and fast way to get these codes that I've downloaded into My Database. :-\

Also, since you've done such a great job putting together all of those codes for the Sonys, you might want to double check the Skip Disc + and Skip Disc -. On my DVP-CX995P your codes (set 1) worked, but were swapped. I'll be checking the other code sets tomorrow night - I need all 3 since I have two 875s as well as the 995. :-}

Thanks again!

Lew,

Thanks for finding this. I'd discovered that one a while back but have never swapped them and asked Daniel to upload the file. Glad they worked for you.

I found the problem!!!

While the remote for my Yamaha RX-V992 receiver worked just fine with the receiver I was totally unable to get a clean read with the TSU9600 no matter what I did.

BUT...

While I was getting ready for work this morning it suddenly occurred to me that I should try new batteries which might increase the signal strength above the noise floor. Guess what? Yep. One of the batteries in the remote was corroded and only reading about .78 volts. I replaced both batteries and was immediately able to get a clean read with the TSU9600.

Ever notice how so often it is the little things that tend to bite you in the butt? :-}

I would like to thank the ProntoTeam for their efforts to find a solution to this problem. They do read the forums and they contacted me the day after I first posted the message with some suggestions and expressing their interest in getting this fixed.

And Lyndel, thanks again for pointing me to the correct spot on the site here where I could find files to download. There are a LOT more files in the Classic Pronto section than where I looked based on the 9600 being a new, pro unit. Me bad. ;-)
