I cant get the rs232 commands from my rfx9600 to work with the gefen HDMI matrix.
In the Gefen manual it says it uses binary eg 0011 0001 do we have to convert this to a hex format and if so how do I do it?

Serial command codes are usually transmitted as 8-bit bytes which can be expressed in binary, as for your Gefen manual, or in hex, octal or decimal numbers. Hex is often prefered because it is easier to read and is compact to write but if the value is between 20h and 7Eh then a single ASCII character can also be used

The PEP software only permits ASCII or hex, so commands given in binary must be entered as their hex equivalent, or if it is a printable ASCII code as a single character.

For the example byte you gave of 0011 0001, then the hex value would be 31h which happens to be the ASCII code for the character "1" so this could also be used.

Note: PEP expects just the two hex digits without the customary h suffix.

Take a look at [Link: prepressure.com] for a look up table that can be used to convert other binary values
