Using several PC's (Vista, XP, WIn 7) latest ver of ProntoEdit and a fully working TSU 9600. When connected to the PC(s), the PC recognises the device, usual USB connection sound when connected and disconnected, but ProntoEdit refuses to download as it "cannot find compatible device".

Ties in with about one month ago, when I had to gently push down on the USB cable at teh TSU9600 port end to get it to connect (download). So it looks very much like a USB failure.

Before I send this back to a Philips repair centre and pay the silly price that they will ask to repair it, anyone got any amazing ideas?

Thansk in advance!

...Jon.

Obviously, this could be a harware failure, but I have had a few similar events on an otherwise stable setup. My solution has been to separate the connection, close ProntoEdit, and power cycle the Pronto. On rare occasions I needed to reboot the computer. I program quite a few Pronto's and this little glitch will bite once or twice a year. It is annoying, but not a big deal for me.

I can't take away your observation that pressing helped. I recommend not pressing your luck (sorry) because if a little pressing gave positive results, more pressing will be used the next time and eventually something will break, and tend to confirm your suspecion.

Thanks for all the comments - Answers:

1 - Latest publically released firmware
2 - No Logitek drivers
3 - Pwr cycling no affect
4 - REbooting PC not effective - THis happens with 5 different PC's / laptops runnign mixture of XP/Vista/Win 7.
5 - Tried dock and direct to 9600 (I thought that this might get round it!!!)

Sounds like it may be time for a repair. You could try a back version of firmware but I doubt that is it.

If you've ever had the unit apart, note that the USB and dock connectors are all on a circuit board that connects to the main board with a ribbon cable. You could try reseating both ends of that cable. You are on your own for instructions as to how to open the unit because that would indeed void any warranty you might have.

i had one lock up the other day so none of the "hot" commands would work or let you get it into firmware mode. to do a download but trying the firmware upgrade confirmed it was corrupt at the least.
