I am an end user. I'm pretty sure my systems integrator is out of ideas so I am trying to figure out a solution to my problem.

The remote will be functioning fine until I set it down and the backlight dims. When I pick the remote up and rock it to wake it up it will have disconnected from the router and it takes 2 or 3 minutes to reconnect. The problem only happens after the remote dims. If I keep rocking it and don't let the remote dim it will stay connected.

Around the beginning of the year I was having problems with the remote randomly losing connection to the router. It was a DLink. I read about people having problems with the DLink dropping connections. So I replaced the DLink with a new Linksys WRT54GS2 router. Everything was rock solid until about 2 weeks ago. That's when I started having the problem described above.

Thanks for any help or ideas.

What happened 2 weeks ago? Firware update on router? Another router or some other sort of interference introduced into your environment?

Good question and thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately nothing was changed. At least overtly. It just all the sudden started taking along time to reconnect.

I do have a question. It may not pertain to the remote disconnecting.
Looking at my XCF file in the Wizz.it software under System->System Properties->Extenders->Advanced box (on the right side), the "Use Fixed IP Address" is checked. If I click on the "?" it states to use a fixed address only in exceptional cases since this will bypass the automatic extender discovery. Could this present a problem?

If I understand correctly, the remote connects to the router which connects to the extender which connects to the different components? I've read over the manuals but still don't have a perfect grasp of the big picture. How things are working together.

Thanks

The used fixed IP setting in PEPV2 means that the remote will not send UDP discovery request for Extender ID #X and instead just uses the IP address. You might consider unchecking this box. FYI, unchecking this box DOES NOT mean that you cannot configure a fixed IP address for your extender.

As always, Thanks Lyndel.

All of the sudden a few days ago the remote started behaving as it should. The only thing I did was look at the different router settings through the setup web page. I thought I might notice something out of the ordinary. I didn't but it started acting normal soon there after.

Of course now that I've declared this publicly it will start disconnecting. : )

LOL Sounds like a flaky router or maybe not latest firmware or a firmware bug.

If that is the case, you might want to reset your router to factory defaults and reconfigure or simply reboot it on a regular basis.
