Sounds like the RT8 may be DOA, or the power supply is.

According to my VOM the power supply is putting out 12 volts DC. I checked to make sure that the plug is the right polarity as it was one I had around the house for a Firewire hub. It is rated at 12V, 1.25A which should certainly be sufficient since the RT8 only pulls .2A.

So I'm really thinking the RT8 is DOA too. What a pain. It took two weeks for the thing to get here as it was. :-\

Oh well.

Thanks!

Argh! I finally got my RT8 unit back from Xantech yesterday. They said they replaced the receiver module as it wasn't reliable from their testing. They also said the unit was working properly. But I still get the same results - nothing.

Did you do anything special for the wiring or just run wires straight from a miniplug in the RFX9400 port to the RT8 input? What output power level do you have the port on the RFX9400 that connects to you RT8 set for? I've tried both low and normal and neither works. Unless they are using some weird wiring, I'm assuming that the tip of the plug into the RFX9400 is hot with the sleeve ground and wired them to the RT8 accordingly. I tried that first, but I tried the other when I got no response to any signals from my RTU9600. I programmed a page to send the Code 58 set that is suppose to be the default for the RT8 and I have yet to get a flicker on the green receiver LED or get any of the 8 red LEDs to light up.

I'm really open to suggestions. If I can't get this working this weekend, I'm going to try returning it and getting my money back as I'm tired of fighting this sucker.

I used to use these with a TSU7000 and RFX6000 at one time and I believe that they are indeed the default codeset for Xantech RT-8. IIRC, when you plug in the power to the RT8, you should see the IR receiver light flash a single time, very dim.

Furthermore, with the RFX6000, I had to remove the internal jumper as I had ground loops that caused interference. Once this was done, I was good to go. I was recently running a Xantech CB12 with an RFX9400 with no issues so the RT8 should work just fine with Jumper removed.

Try these codes please. If these do not work, please try adjusting the 'Duration' of the IR code from something other than 'Default'. Start with a large value such as .7s and adjust down until you find something that does not work:

Group On:
900A 006D 0000 0001 16E9 0CF3

Group Off:
900A 006D 0000 0001 16E9 11EE

Output 1:
900A 006D 0000 0001 16E9 01FE

Output 2:

Output 3:

Lyndel:

THANKS!!!!! That worked!

I suspect that at least part of the problem was that the code set I got was incorrect, even though it said it was the Code 58 set.

Your codes worked fine - even at the default duration. They are also about the shortest I've seen! I think there is all sorts of extra cruft in many of the ones that I'm using, but I'm not at a point where I can correct them.

Now all I have to do is get some time to work on this and get it all configured. Working at a boarding school that has an extensive summer program doesn't tend to allow a lot of free time at this time of year. :-} I've got around 350 staff members to generate ID cards for this weekend and 1800 kids to generate the cards for the following weekend. Hopefully I'll get some time soon to work on this though.

Thanks again for your assistance!

Opps! That was suppose to be 1380 kids, not 1800! :-}

Lyndel - Xantech is sending me a new RT8 as while the old one is working, it will only work as long as the cover is off. As soon as I put the cover back on it goes totally unresponsive. Remove the cover and it immediately starts working.

So hopfully I'll be getting the new unit the middle of next week and it will work with the cover on!

:-}

Thanks for the help!

The reason Lyndell's codes are short is because they are in one of the special internal Pronto formats as opposed to learned format. Pronto set up special formats for the most common codes, one of them being the NEC code which is declared by the prefix of 900x. The advantage of those (internal) formats is that they are precise with regard to timing as opposed to the learned format which is susceptable to noise during the learning process, and are very efficient storage wise..

There is at least one technical paper in the forum files that describes the internal formats of the Pronto, and while a bit complicated, makes for worthwhile reading if you want to understand how the Pronto generates it's IR timing patterns.

"Pronto Hex IR Format" by none other than Barry Gordon. You can find this in User Documentation Subsection of the Classic Pronto Files Area.

I think there's also another document as well by Eugene (Eigeny) Eulanov that is a bit harder to read but also has some great info.

:-)

When I generated those codes, I did so using MakeHex and then when pulled into ProntoEditProNG for my TSU7000, the codes were shortened. The Classic Pronto FAQ and the NG FAQ have information on what the first 4 digits of the code mean as well. Link to FAQs can be found at the bottom of page in the respective forums.
