There are clips on the short edges of the cover. My recommendation is to squeeze the long edges of the cover near the corners. This should help. You can also run a piece of plastic (a credit card) under the edge to pry it up.

I believe that this approach might have been mentioned in the service manual. Use a little pressure. I don't think you will break anything.

Hi,

Is there also a TSU9400 and a TSU9800 Service Manual ??
It would be very useful.

Regards, Fischi

Search for disassemble 9400 and you will find a thread where post #1 contains a link to a set of instructions.

I finally got around to replacing the batteries in the 3 TSU9600's I actively use here in the house. Don't know why I waited so long. That being said, after I was done I decided just for kicks to slap a fresh battery in the original TSU9600 I had been provided by Philips for beta testing purposes which had stopped working several years ago after years of use and abuse and thousands of downloads to the remote. I originally thought it might have just been the battery. Replaced the battery. The remote would power on and attempt to boot, then displaying an error. Anyway, today I completely disassembled the remote, then put it back together again. Slapped in a brand new battery and to my surprise it powered on and booted to the "Home" page without issue. Seems to be working just fine now. Have powered it off and then back on again. Reset the remote a number of times. No issues. Talk about taking a licking and it keeps on ticking. The screen activation issue I had reported to Philips way back when is still present though. The screen activates on its own, then goes to sleep, then after a couple seconds activates on its own again. Rinse and repeat until I reset the remote where it eventually starts doing it again at some point. Back in the day I used to just sit the remote face down on the couch next to me when not in use as a way to ignore the issue. Don't miss those days. That's for sure. Have yet to ever experience the issue per the TSU9600's I've owned since which all have the metal scroll wheel and not the plastic one.

I bought my 9600 batteries off EBay for $11.25 each with free shipping.

On a related note...
This was the first time I had replaced the battery in a 9600 that had the metal scroll wheel. The procedure is the same obviously. The nice thing though is that they moved the placement of the sticker on the back side of the remote that displays the serial number. It used to be positioned lower covering up one of the screws. That's no longer the case now. :-)
