Some info:

"Our friends across the pond at Multiroom.fr are at CEDIA UK and have posted this shot from the Marantz booth. Marantz has had versions of the previous Pronto remotes and now it looks like they will have the Philips Pronto Professional TSU9600 as well as the RFX9400 extender. Multiroom reports that the Marantz version is thicker than the Philips Pronto Professional and all black."

I noted some details on the picture. Look in the back, right top, a hard button remote, maybe marantz version of the 9200. And at the left top a part of a LCD, 9400 maybe?

I saw that as well, but the button arrangement isn't quite right to be a version of the 9200. And at any rate, Marantz models usually fall at least 6 months behind the Philips versions.

Engadget posted an article on this remote today. Link action below.

Marantz's RC9001 touchscreen remote with WiFi extender

Included is a very nice pic of the remote, so make sure to check it out.

The remote is not "thicker" per se, it just does a full wraparound of the battery and speaker where the 9600 is sculpted to be hand-held on the sides. It has separate buttons for +/- features where the 9600 has a rocker-like mechanism.

The circuit boards inside are, I bet, 100% the same as the power/USB board is a separated printed circuit connected with a flat cable and can be moved out a little to accomodate the new casing.

Also, both the RFX units will be supported (9400 and 9600).

However, I'd hedge bets on a Marantz unit as they did "SUCH" a great job outsourcing software firmware updates to Philips. This statement reeks with sarcasm, if you have not guessed.

Used to be that Marantz had something to differentiate them from Philips (Multiple Jumps but no Beeps/Timers). AFAIK, the NG remotes had few differentiators: NO IR, only 2 firm keys at bottom of the screen, and the 9200-like case.

I can't imagine what Marantz could have on the Pro platform that Philips does not. Looks like different case and new graphics but in order to maintain interoperability with WI-FI extenders, I bet there will be no other differences than the case and rebranded software (that, unless Marantz chooses to maintain, will become useless).

The TSU9600 is much better looking than the Marantz. Something about it just doesn't look right.
May the pronto be with you

I'm glad you liked my post ;-) [Link: remoteshoppe.com]

It's a tough racket when Engadget comes late to the party and gets called out by name but I get quoted verbatim without any love at all. I'm just kiddin of course... it's just nice to know someone's reading my site and in this case Alban at Multiroom gets all the credit anyway.

He posted a much nicer picture (obviously a marketing image)

Jim,

Nice picture. The Marantz version is really a fat boy. Here a zoom of the graphics: http://www.multiroom.fr/

Lyndel for you ,a Marantz lover, the softer will be the Wizz.it EX

By the way Jim, can you get us an TSU9400 picture?

I still own an RC5000i. Sold my RC9200 to a friend.

Wizz.it or Wizz.it EX? Own an RC9500? Never! Use Wizz.it? Only once to reverse engineer a PCF file then never used it again.

Marantz never really sold me on their versions of the NG platform. They chose to stay way behind in firmware and the software was almost as bad. Lack of 4 firm keys did not help. And, do they have the 'Duration' feature yet? I bet not.

One thing you have to agree, the marantz series aways looked better than the philips NG and Classic ones. The 6000 only is a little bit better tha nthe NGs.
