With the latest firmware and software, I have now received this error message several times on my 9800 and 9400. Obviously there is NOT another user. What's this all about? I have had to turn the pronto off/on to clear. Seem to happen when I was using the wheel to turn up/down the volume. SJ

I have also seen this with the volume up button, after the remote almost blew up my speakers by sending my receiver endlessly volume up commands. I'm using a tsu9600 in combination with an rfx9400

I would NOT recommend using the scroll wheel for volume. Its far to easy to jog it by accident and scaring the s**t out of anyone and yourself. Also I dont feel the scroll wheel is accurate enough to handle a sensitive task as volume control.

I use it mainly as UP/DOWN in menues and fast forward/reverse.

I've seen this happen exactly 1 time. Likely has something to do with the extender and not getting an appropriate response from it. When this occurs, can you capture whatever entries are in diag log and send email to belgium?

Thanks,
Lyndel

The diagnostic log just has "0450 Extender 0 didn't reply". This is between my TSU9800 and my RFX9600. I also looked at my TSU9400 log. Same message "0450 Extender 1 didn't reply". This is between my TSU9400 and a RFX9400. Anything else for me to look for? All of my devices are on the latest firmware. Thanks. SJ

Edit: I did send this info to Phillips....

Hi

I get this every once in a while and I am NOT on the latest firmware (PEP 1 user). I usually power cycle the RFX 9400 when this happens, I think that after using it for a while (for me it's 2-3 months) something get's hosed (tech term) and it just needs an enema.

The problem is that it seems to happen with volume control! Maybe has to do with a command that is repeated. Anyway, I setup my max volume levels a bit lower on our processors jut in case.... SJ

Same problem here with multiple jobs i have done.

We had just finished servicing all RFX extenders and remotes with the 'LOCKING UP' firmware, when a customer whos remote we just updated.

i think my speakers are blown up he said. The remote just locked and the volume kept going up! with the message in the screen 'system in use by other user' . Only he has just one remote!! .

i went to have a listen, and they were blown up.
The bigist problem was that he has amina inwall speakers! so the speakers had to be hacked out of the concrete walls and his wall has to be replasterd!!

he was not happy..

Philips said they could not help us with this. so we had to pay for the replastering and the new speakers!

What version of firmware are you now running on all the remotes and extenders.

I have seen this only once and have sent the remote back to Belgium but they can not get it to repeat the problem.

"System in Use By another User" problems started when we updated ALL our customers remotes with firmware:

Remote firmware : 7_1_21
Extender firmware: 1_3_8

with the firmware before that we had the extenders lock up.

So are you now running the latest version on them all ?

and all is OK?

no.. we still have them on

Remote firmware : 7_1_21
Extender firmware: 1_3_8

7.2.22 gave some problems with prontoscript, we are still fixing that.

Note that we have like more than 50 customers with TSU93/94/96/800  remotes, and going out on free service calls because of buggy firmware sucks.

A bit of an Update the Volume ramping up to max , seem to be caused by not using the correct firmware and software.

Philips tend to release them in pairs " firmware & Software" the Volume ramping in our case we had here was not a "released Pair" once the firmware and software were back in Sync, all was good . :)

I have been experiencing this issue as well. Started happening with the updates prior to the latest ones just released. Have had several close calls per blowing my speakers to kingdom come due to this. Fortunately I can set a maximum volume limit per the A/V receiver, so I've set that accordingly. I'd also note that I've experienced this issue just as many times when I didn't happen to be ramping my volume. Either the message just comes up on its own or after pressing a given button. The message will continue to come up each time I attempt to send a signal from the remote until I reset the remote which resolves the issue. I'd simply roll back to the prior firmware, but the version I'm running addresses a memory leak issue, so its been worth the trade-off.

I too have been having this problem both on the current firmware as well as the prior version. Fortunately I'm controlling volume using rs232 on the same extender and it doesn't seem to have a problem - it's only commands issued through the IR ports - in my case my Sat receiver. I have noticed it will correct itself if I give it 10 minutes or so.

This is very discouraging. I feel for those that have speakers blown out because of it.

Philips - please help!!!!!!!
