Just received my 9600. I have an Escient Fireball E120 with E2 software. Do you have to have an extender to commicate with/ and control the Escient? I have the Escient already hooked up to my home network and I have a wireless access point already. Thanks, Marc

It will work standalone without the RFX9400 or RFX9600 as long as you have the 9600 configured as a device on your wireless network (I suggest DHCP). Then, simply set the IP or Host name of your E2 on the Escient Device Properties.

However, your E2 must be running firmware version 4.1.7.XXX (whatever the latest is) that supports the Escient External Control Protocol as outlined in the PDF document available for download from the Escient Site.

Thanks. I'll check my E2 firmware. Now I just have to learn how to have the 9600 configured as a device on my wireless network. Tips?

There's a tab in the System Properties dedicated for adding 9600 to network. Simply specify your network's SSID and then specify the WEP key. Ask for DHCP, and you are done.
