I have a problem with my TSU 9600. For a while, the control panel was hot on the right hand side. Now it will not charge. I think the battery has died, but the control panel shows the battery is full.

A couple of questions.

Is there something I can check to verify a problem? From what I have read on this forum, changing the bettery may not be something I want to do. I believe the unit is out of warranty, since I belive the warranty is 1 year.

If I need a new battery, how and where do I send the unit? I have the original box.

Thanks

I had/have the same problem. I replaced the battery that a friend at Philips set me and it worked fine for a couple of months. It has started once again doing the same thing. I feel it is the charging circuit over charging the battery. I now por id down when I am not using it.

I have no info on where to get the battery and If anyone else does I would like to know that, at least the mfg (other than Philips) and model of the Battery or a compatible unit.

The USA service depot for Philips is Service Wide Technolgy. Just google them. I think they quoted me about $100 to replace the battery, but as I said, I think it is a circuit problem, which translates to bigger bucks. Let me know how you make out.

It could be an over charging problem. I would have hoped it still involved the battery, but am uncertain what would cause the circuit to go bad.

Anyone eles have this sort of problem?

I have been in contact with the service company. It is $40 for a battery if I want to install it myself, and $100 if they do it.

If someone has replaced the battery, how difficult is it, or is it worth the extra $60 to have someone else do it.

I am not 100% sure how to get the unit apart.

Also, how long should a battery last? The unit is around 2 years old.

Thanks

The remote is pretty simple to take apart.

There is a screw (I don't know what these are called in English) underneath one of the rubber cushions on the back of the remote. If you put the remote on the table, with the screen facing down, so you can read the label. The screw is under the top right rubber cushion.
Then there is four more screws underneath the label.

Once you have removed all of these you should be able to remove the cover without any problems.

For those in Sweden, you can buy a new battery from www.hembiobutiken.se by sending an e-mail to them. A new battery is 590 SEK.

Same problem here (for 1 out of 3 units). I had Service Wide take a look at it and they replaced the battery (~$100) -- it only lasted for a few weeks before it wouldn't hold a charge any more. I keep the 9600 in the stand now.

I went the Service Wide route and replaced the battery. They turned it around quickly.

Will see how long it lasts.

I leave the remote in the cradle 99% of the time anyway, so perhaps I wouln't have any more problems.

The batterys are only available from Pronto Distributors, you will need to contact your local/country Distributor.

I would also advise that they are not the easiest units to take apart, and there is a high chance that you will sanp the plastic luggs.
Pronto still one of the best Wi-Fi Remotes,

BTW

Service Wide DOES now sell the batteries, I think they are $50. I just had them change one for me (I am just no good when it comes to taking stuff like this apart). Fast turn around and for the extra $50 worth it to me.

Just got off the phone with Service Wide, AND they won't just sell you a battery. Apparently, this is a Philips policy for the tsu 9600 and 9800. You have to return the 9600 to Service Wide, and they will do what you can do for yourself, for the low, low price of $95. This is nuts!! I have the battery in my hands, and all I need is the battery (which used to sell for about $25).

Does anyone know where else I could get a new battery? England and Sweden won't ship outside their country.

ProntoWizard now sells the TSU9600 and TSU9400 battery online. The 9600 battery also includes instructions on how to take it apart properly.
