Hi,

I am using a pronto to control my Windows 7 Media Center PC whose case has a built in IRTrans device. There is an MCE PC in the philips database which gives me enough to navigate and control 7MC but I need to emulate a keyboard for searching titles.

I tried searching the file areas for IR codes but can't find any. Is this even possible?

Anyone have any tips or pointers as to how I might achieve this.?

You can use something like Girder which is an IR code to keypress converter and requires a USB IR/T module (not sure if Girder will support built-in one) and the Girder software. You might also search to see if they provided support for SerialKeys which would allow you to send keyboard/mouse commands via RS232 to your PC.

Google for SerialKeys or try F1 Help from Win7 to see if you have support for this. Of course, if you don't have RFX9600, then SerialKeys is not an option.

I've sent you the Microsoft keyboard IR codes by email. It is a PEPv2 configuration file so also contains buttons for each code.

Note that the codes are for single keys only. If you want to use combination keys (e.g. Alt-C) then you will have to set your PC to use whatever the Windows 7 equivalent to XP StickyKeys is.

Thanks. That is exactly what I was hoping to find.

It works very well and I didn't need to use any additional software or drivers (I think IR Trans has support for MS Keyboard remote).

With regards to combination keys, is this just a case of finding appropriate codes or do you think this is this just the way the Microsoft MCE keyboard is?

Thanks for this information. I was actually looking into girder becuase I'm also wanting to switch video refresh rates from the pronto and thought this might help? Do you know if this is possible?

As for the keyboard using Guy's pronto codes over an IR extender is a fairly tidy solution.

Wondering though... could there be a more direct route to Windows Media Center using TCP/IP?

tfrangoullides, Girder pro is possible to use directly with tcp/ip. Search the forum and you will find some posts about it. One can control most of the things on a pc with girder, for example change resolution, start program, hibernate or restart PC etc. I use it to control MediaPortal, wake/hibernate PC:s.

Try also to google for a solution for tcp/ip and WMC, I think that someone made a server program for this and you can download it for free. Haven't tried it myself.

The software requires a small app running on your PC to open up a TCP/IP port on your PC, and your Pronto sends commands direct.

I'm fairly sure you can send any alphanumeric key as listed here

The new Key: command seems to say that anything key can be sent, as opposed to MCE remote control commands.
