Just like to say hello to everyone here on remote central......

Just recently purchased a 9600 and have just download the Padone software.

All is working great except that it loses the wifi connection every so often.

The strange thing is,it seems to lose the connection when the screen is lit up,but as soon as the back light goes after about 20 seconds and i tilt the remote so it lights up again then the wifi connection will connect again !

Anyone else found this......?

Could it be a setting that is wrong on my remote ?

Also,is there any other similar \ better software available for the 9600 ?
Something that you customise as you can't seem to alter the PadOne software at all.

There is a parameter in system properties which controls how long the wifi connection is maintained. The default is 2 hours but I have mine set to 24 hours which (I think) means that it is maintained indefinitely.

Rather than PadOne, I use SlimPronto + SoftSqueeze/Squeezecenter. SoftSqueeze and Squeezecenter are both free software from Logitech and can be downloaded from their sitte (www.logitechsqueezebox.com). SlimPronto is a Pronto module from Barry Gordon and can be purchased from him for a small amount.

That setting is set to 24hr timeout on mine too........any other ideas ?

Thanks for the other information on alternative software,I will take a loot at that.

Yes, well worth a loot.

I don't have any other ideas but there have been several other recent threads on similar issues. Try searching (the search facility is very good).

Well it seems as though i can only ping the pronto from my laptop when the screen is lit up on the pronto.

As soon as the screen dims down,i cannot ping the pronto ?

It seems to me that as soon as the screen dims down the wifi connection is lost, and as soon as the screen lights up,the wifi connection will try to reconnect itself.

Surely even when the screen dims down, the wifi connection should still stay connected ?

The original Title for this thread said "Padone Wifi Issues" but i have now changed that,as i am having this same problem now with ProntoSqueeze software as well.

So obviously the problem lies with the Pronto itself or my network configuration.

Any ideas \ help much appreciated........

With all of the recent changes to the Pronto firmware it is hard to answer a question like yours, or help with a problem not knowing which firmware you are running.

The Pronto design has got to maximize battery life, which they do very well, as most times when it is being used it is not in the docking station.

My viewpoint has been that the wifi connection will be lost. The fact that it does so when the backlight goes off is reasonable since the probability is that it is not being used at that moment, and by not maintaining the connection power is being saved. When the Pronto starts to be used (as evidenced by its motion sensor) the application running needs to take appropriate action, which might be to do nothing or to ascertain state.

What the software has to do is be sure it recovers state (WiFi loss or not) in an application that is dealing with a server that is progressing (like playing music) so that when the backlight comes on and the user can view the screen that the screen data is in sync with what the server is doing.

I have enabled DHCP rather then a fixed ip adress on the Pronto, and this has made the world off difference !

The PadOne software is working flawlessly now.....

Not too sure sure about ProntoSqueeze though......there still seems to be a problem here.

Again, nowhere in this thread is the version of firmware and editor running mentioned. Please post this information for others to compare to.

If you've never upgraded the firmware, then it is likely you are running on a back version of firmware. Then, the version number of the editor you are using comes into question.

Thanks,
Lyndel

In theory, enabling DHCP should make little if any difference, unless you had an IP address conflict with the Pronto and some other host on your network. In fact, enabling DHCP should slow things down a little bit since a renegotiation of a new IP address might take place if you loose or re-instantiate the connection to the WAP.

I wil check all devices on the network, and make sure there are no duplicate IP address's.

I might try disabling the DHCP and using a static ip address again, this time with a different one to the one i was using.

WEP or WPA? PEP1 or PEP2?

The reason I am asking you to post the answers is that my plan is to have Belgium take a look at this thread.

I am sharing Drexal's problems: Very often, network connection (WPA) is dropped on my TSU9600 (icon shows a red cross), sometimes it comes back, sometimes it takes a lot of time to come back.
It takes me minutes to get into Barry Gordon's SlimPronto (although server
is already running and playing music because it awoke from being hibernated).
Seems as if as soon as I decide to use my Music Server, pick up TSU9600 and try to enter SlimPronto, Wifi is lost (red cross appears). The moment I picked up the device and screen lit up, Wifi icon was okay.
And it is usually stable once I managed to get into SlimPronto (Weird, isn't it?)

I did not experience such problems with old firmware and WEP, directly connecting to server which emulated an access point (so omitted router at that time). Only since upgrade and switch to WPA it is driving me mad.

Router's status page shows me TSU9600 and server being connected.
All equipment using fixed IP address, triple-checked for duplicates.
Other equipment (laptop) has no problems with router's WPA Wifi.

PEP2 ver 2.3.17.0

Just curious which version of Squeeze center you are running. I am running the release candidate for the next SlimPronto with no issues on the new firmware. However I am not using WPA. I will be checking operation under SC 7.4 and then send out an update.
