This is starting to get intriguing. Initially, I just wanted to get hex codes that I could cut paste and verify through IR Dump.

Let me explain and I'll try not to get too confusing because it is a convoluted process;

I have a program called IRDump, which allows me to enter Pronto/hex codes and write them to an old Vity controller. I then verify the codes through an emitter connected to one of the controller's output ports. I attach the emitter to the learner for my current control system and learn the codes that way because the current learner doesn't accept hex codes.

I've been doing this for discretes for quite some time and it works well.

Recently, I've been trying with hex codes for Xfinity, which, as you probably know is RF.

The Xfinity codes work perfectly when verified directly out of the Vity controller, but, for some reason, my current learner won't learn them. I think the current learner misinterprets the codes?

Anyway, that's the reason I was asking anyone in the forum if they could recommend an IR learner that could accept and verify hex codes thinking maybe its time to retire the Vity.

I know this is a pretty broad question, but, I'll try. Given the above info how do you think IrScrutinizer can replace and/or do more than my current method?

So I found where IrPanels places the generated ccf file....in the Program Files/IRPanels directory and its not a folder but a ccf file with name IRCodesCreate.ccf

Importing this file into Pronto Edit gives you 11 panels of 25 buttons, but, there doesn't appear to be any code.

So I'm not sure how this helps, but, I feel like I'm making strides.

You have to paste the entire output of MakeHex into the Input window of IRPanels and then generate the CCF.

After you have a CCF file, you must import it into PEP1 (PEP2 does not support .CCF files)

If you are opening the file IRCodesMaster.ccf, then it has nothing in it as it is the template file used to create the CCF.

I recommended IRScrutinizer earlier. I would recommend that you spend some time learning how to generate files from that tool.

The output of the files (CCF or PCF) can be imported into PEP1.

The file location of exports on Win7 is:

C:\Users\{UserName}\AppData\Local\Temp\exports

I've never seen this step mentioned in previous threads. Sounds like what I'm looking for. Is PEP1 a program? where to download?

About IrScrutinizer; I get it. It's newer and combines what these other programs do into one. That said, I have to admit, a lot of it seems over my head.

I almost prefer Jasonvp's way of IRTool for device code, modifying .irp file with device code, dragging into makehex and copy pasting into IRPanels.........and finally, hopefully, importing the .ccf into PEP1.

I know its a lot of steps, but, they're easy to do and its the way Jasonvp did them and he was the master around here for a long time.

Not trying to be stubborn, but, if it ain't broke why fix?

That said, I will spend more time learning IrScrutinizer. If that's the way we're going than that's the direction I need to take.

Thanks for your help.

PEP1 is located in C/Program Files/Common Files/Pronto

I have an old TSU3000 rarely used because the touch screen not working. That said, I'm able to use connected by USB to an old pc with XP OS.

I looked at the install of ProntoEdit NG and cannot find the PEP1 or PEP2 files.

Not yet.

PEP1 and PEP2 are ProntoEdit Professional Version 1 and Version 2 respectively.

ProntoEditNG is the Next Gen (TSU3x00/TSU7x00) editor.

Learning something new every day and so glad I didn't throw out my TSU3000. When the touch screen died I thought it was useless until I connected by USB and able to learn + verify codes both Hex and from IR remotes.

I've never seen a remote that sends out such a powerful IR signal, either. I was verifying a command probably 6' away from my set top box and not even facing it and the command executed.

Can certainly appreciate why these remotes were so successful. Wonder why they stopped making them?

Because the Ipad/IPhone/IPod gained the market share and the profit margin was not there.

Do you know if iDevices have the ability to cut, paste and send IR hex codes? Is there an app out there you've tried and could recommend? any necessary hardware?

I searched this forum for "remote apps for apple" and found a few topics.

With regard to cut-n-paste pronto hex, I have no idea.

Ditto. I read enough to learn iDevices can't replace robust control systems. At least not yet. They can work with them as interfaces, but, thats where the buck stops. And as far as cut-paste-send pronto hex....what better than my TSU3000, right?

At least for Android, there exists several apps for sending IR, that can be configured with an editable text file (allowing cut-n-paste if you want). A configuration file can also be exported from IrScrutinizer.

I have had some contact with the author of Irplus, It can be used with a Samsung hardware with IR "blaster". Other similar apps, supported by IrScrutinizer are AnyMote, Unified Remote. Home Remote, possibly Homeass. Of these, at least Unified remote appears to run on Apple.

I've made a little progress with IrScrutinizer today. I'm able to import a hex code from a txt file and send through a Global Cache G-100.

I recently upgraded to Xfinity TV and the IR codes, for some reason, can't be learned by my control system IR learner.

They learn fine to my Pronto TSU3000 and verify on the Xfinity X1 set top box, but, when I try to learn them to my control system learner.....nada.

I believe the codes for Xfinity are XMP?

Anyway, any suggestions on how IrScrutinizer might be able to help?

Make sure that the signals you want to migrate are (well) learned in your Pronto, export the configuration as .ccf or .xcf (not .pcf) using PE. Import it into IrScrutinizer (Import -> Pronto Prof, or Pronto Classic).

There are also two command sets for Xfinity set top box at https://irdb.globalcache.com/ . Yes, they are XMP (XMP-1 to be exact). These command can easily be imported into IrScrutinizer with a few key clicks.

Many IR "learners" fail on XMP...

That's exactly what appears to be happening.

I can copy the Xfinity hex codes into my Pronto and send them to the STB and they work....................but.............when I try to send them from the Pronto to my control system learner............the learning fails.

I've also been able to put the Xfinity remote into IR sending mode and the Pronto can learn them..........but......the same result.........when sent to the control system learner by the Pronto.........the learning fails.

Do u think learning them on the Global Cache IRL and then copy pasting to the Pronto and sending to the control system learner that way would work?

In other words, in this way, the XMP would be converted into something the control system learner would accept?

Or, can IrScrutinizer provide any solution?
