OK I am trying to put it all together. I have my Vista Media Center PC connected to my flat screen. It uses an irTrans receiver that works well with my MCE remote. In an attempt to consolidate 5 remotes, I got a Pronto 9400. So far almost everything works pretty good, but there is one missing part. I want to eliminate the keyboard too.

The irTrans has profiles built in for the MCE Keyboard and MCE Mouse. What I want to do is to have the Pronto send these IR commands. This seems simple enough, but so far I can't find a database with these codes. I don't have either of these devices so I can't learn them either. I can look at the codes in the irTrans database, but they are not in Pronto format.

Does anyone know where I can find a PEP2 compatible database with these codes?

Or perhaps a better suggestion?

From what I recall theres really no need for a keyboard and mouse in MCE. All I ever do is scroll left and right, or up and down.

You can also get to your MCE using a xbox 360 (if you have one) There are codes for the 360 in the database and they work well. I use the firm keys on the pronto remote to navigate the screens. You can even get it to work with the scroll wheel, much like the game controller.

If you are trying to get rid of your keyboard and mouse completely and use the remote somehow for all your computers functions I dont think it can be done with an external ir receiver. From what I've seen they can only do simple functions like launching certain programs (ie:MCE) and play, pause ect functions. I think you can already do that with the set up you have now.

I think there are programs that you can buy that allow you to control the entire pc via an ir sensor but I am sure its alot of $$$. Lyndel might now the name of them......

Thanks, but yes I am trying to eliminate the keyboard and mouse. I know I can just point or scroll to stuff, but in my movie collection I would much rather type "R" to jump to the Rs than hit the right button 300 times...

I am not trying to touch type on the 9400, just simplify a few basic text entries...

I found a Pronto CCF file where someone had learned an IR keyboard. As a proof of concept I copied a few codes into my database. There is an irTrans utility to import from Pronto CCF files and I imported a couple of codes. It works but was very tedious. During the process is when I discovered that the irTrans already had a profile for for the Microsoft MCE Keyboard. Unfortunately I can't find a utility to go from irTrans to Pronto.

As far as play, pause, etc... Piece of cake, done.

Fhebert,

If you have a CCF files with the codes on, I don't really understand your problem. Why not import the CCF into PEPv1 and then save the relevant activity to My Database?

The CCF file is for a keyboard that someone learned, but it is not the same keyboard (Microsoft MCE Keyboard) that is built into irTrans. Also the learned keyboard doesn't work the same way.

The learned keyboard has all the keys, upper and lower case, but no ALT, CTL or Functions. ALso they are all named "Learned"... Like I said I did import some. You have to open the file in PEP1, change the manes to "A", "B", "C", etc. Very tedious.

The keyboard defiition in irTrans has the entire keyboard and is already done.

I just thought with millions of media center users, and pronto users, that someone would have the keyboard IR codes...

Actually the more I use Media Center the less I like it. I think it could be a GREAT product but there are some fundamental shortcommings...

Sorry for the rant.

I guess I am going to end up going back to the learne keyboard and just work through it. :(
