I try to control a DVDO VP50 with a TSU9600 and a RFX9600
and have to send code with contains the caracter \x00.
But the NULL-character terminate the Strings.

set Power On
0x02 0x33 0x30 0x30 0x35 0x41 0x31 0x00 0x31 0x00 0x03
set Power Off
0x02 0x33 0x30 0x30 0x35 0x41 0x31 0x00 0x30 0x00 0x03

query Power
0x02 0x32 0x30 0x30 0x33 0x41 0x31 0x00 0x03

Posible results
is On
0x02 0x32 0x31 0x30 0x35 0x41 0x31 0x00 0x31 0x00 0x36 0x44 0x03
is OFF
0x02 0x32 0x31 0x30 0x35 0x41 0x31 0x00 0x30 0x00 0x36 0x43 0x03

Is it possible to send and receive not strings but arrays of bytes?

Many RS232 systems strip nulls. In fact in Windows VB it is an option as to wether you want to strip nulls on rs232 transmissions. IfPhilips has decided to always strip nulls then you are screwed as the VP50 does require the null character. Since i do not use RS232 on the pronto, I can not help you, perhaps Lyndel can.

If I recall correctly, there are cases in my X10 CM11a module where I both receive and xmit strings containing null characters with NO problems.

The first question I MUST ask is how is the string being built? The above examples are just that, examples of what the command would look like. There has been no sample of the Prontoscript that is failing provided.

Please provide an example.
