Hi,

I've searched this forum for all my problems in the past and have never needed to post anything, but unfortunately I can't solve this one.

I have 2 TSU9600s and 2 RFX9600s. I have had a problem a couple times now where the volume control (RS232 Pioneer Elite Receiver) stops working, then shortly after, all RS232 stops working. In the past I have either been able to restart everything and it will work, or uprade/reflash all of the firmware and it goes away. I am having this problem again and have tried rebooting everything, reflashing everything and rebooting my whole network and all Pronto Devices.

Anybody have this ongoing problem? I've read other posts with this problem, but no definitive fixes.  All Firmware is the latest. IR does work.

Thanks

I've had a similar problem for a long time but intermittently on RS232 Port #1 only. I would like to have more information about your setup.

1. What RS232 ports are in use?
2. On each RS232 port, do you use ProntoScript or standard one-way actions to control the equipment.
3. Are there cases where the equipment being controlled fires lots of responses that might get ignored which could cause the buffer to fill up (1024 bytes).

The only way to resolve the problem for me is to power cycle the RFX9600 and when I do, voila, Serial Port #1 works again. FYI, I use one-way actions from PEPv1 and the equipment is a Denon 5805 receiver.

Thank you for your response Lyndel.

1. On the RFX9600 that controls the Pioneer Receiver (VSX-94TXH), I am only using Port #1 for RS232, but all of the IR ports are being used. It always starts when we are using the volume (hard buttons). I have them programmed to control the volume when it is held down, possibly the unit is responding and crashing it.

2. I am only using one-way communication currently.

3. It is possible that the volume situation is causing this, but I am not sure how to check whether or not the buffer is getting filled up.

As I said in my first post, in the past most of the time a reboot of the TSU9600s and the RFX9600s has been a fix. A couple times I have had to reflash all of the firmware, but this time neither of those situations has been a fix. The other odd issue is once the RS232 fails on one RFX9600, the other one follows within a few minutes. I was hoping that moving to these remotes/extenders would be even more stable than my old ProntoPros, but now I'm surprised that my 5 year old remotes were more stable than these. The IR works flawlessly, its just the RS232 that keeps failing. I'm pretty sure its nothing to with the remotes because they keep working for IR communication with the RFX9600s and they still work for IP control of my VUDU.

I have sent a couple of emails to Philips in the past, but they don't respond.

What entries are in the diagnostics log?

Any ProntoScript errors?

You never responded as to whether you were controlling volume with ProntoScript or the one-way 232 (Database - PEPv2 or std action - PEPv1) actions.

Sorry, I am using the one-way RS232 and PEPv2. I will have to check the diagnostics log when I get home.
