Well, I've acquired the TUS9600, two RFX9600s are on the way (the one that came is probably broke and needs to be returned), and I've downloaded both versions of PEP software. This is the beginning of my quest to replace my Crestron system with a Pronto system of my own design.

Some questions:

1. The only PEP manual I find is the 121 page manual that is downloaded from the Philips site. Is this manual even relevant to V. 2? If not, is there a manual relating to V. 2?

2. As a starting point, I'm trying to make sure my database is filled with the right components. For my Denon AVP-A1HDCI, I've got to load two remotes, both of which have ad nauseum functions. When I go through the Help function on V. 2, it refers to "Fast Learn." In order to do it, however, I have to figure out which is the "learn" button, and which is the "fast learn" button. Not identified in the manual that came with the unit, and I have no idea where these buttons are.

3. Isn't the RFX9600 supposed to have four RS232 ports? There are three and then a port that looks unlike any RS232 port I've ever seen.

Thanks,

Nick

1. Download and install PEPv1 - Use F1 Help from there.
In PEPv2, the help file (F1) is pretty sparse, that's why I say download PEPv1 help.

2. Fast learn refers to adding entries to My Database and the buttons should be on the dialog window.

3. There are 4 serial ports. You should be aware that only pins 2, 3, 5 are used on the DB9 connectors. Therefore, you have 3 DB9 connectors and 1 3-pin phoenix connector. The I hope the pinouts for this last connector are in the RFX9600 manual or on the back of the unit.

Just to clarify point 3, the 2,3,5 pins on the DB9 are used only for the RFX9600 unit. Some components require also pins 7 and 8 but the RFX9600 does not offer that capability. The trick would be to short pins 7 and 8 at the components' end.

This probably answers my question, which is this: Is the Philips Manual relating to the PEP software v1 (121 pages) applicable to v2? If so, this solves this problem.

This is still not clear. I have posted my question on AVS, because I could attach screenshots illustrating my problem. Please see it at [Link: avsforum.com] and, if you can, respond here or there.

Thanks,

Nick

Tha manual is for PepV1, yes.
I had the same problem. It's a bit different in V2, but close enough to get a 'feel' for it.

The Pronto needs to be connected to the PC via USB to learn, as the sensor is in the Pronto, and the learning is done in the Pep software.

I am not doing a good job in asking the questions.

First, I know the MANUAL (downloaded from the Philips Pronto site) was written in connection with v1. My question, however, is DOES THE MANUAL ALSO APPLY TO v2? In other words, will I learn to control v2 by using the manual, OR DOES IT SIMPLY HAVE NO MORE APPLICATION NOW THAT A NEW SOFTWARE VERSION IS OUT?

Second, I recognize the Pronto needs to be connected. However, in the Help tabs for v2, it specifically tells you to press TWO BUTTONS. Those buttons are named "LEARN," and "FAST LEARN." I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME LOCATE THESE BUTTONS, either on the TSU9600 itself, or in the dialog window.

If anyone has seen the two screenshots from the link to my AVS post, perhaps you could tell me what is missing from my dialog window? And if something is missing, HOW DO I GET IT THERE?

Thanks,

Nick

Nick,

I think Pulse-R answered your first question: "the manual is close enough to get a 'feel' for it."

And I think Lyndel answered your second question: "Fast learn refers to adding entries to My Database." and that is where the buttons are.

Nick,

I think Pulse-R answered your first question: "the manual
is close enough to get a 'feel' for it."

I take it from your response that this means that some of the manual still applies, and other parts do not. Okay, I'll live with that.

And I think Lyndel answered your second question: "Fast
learn refers to adding entries to My Database." and that
is where the buttons are.

If you look at the screenshots I linked to on AVS, the second one is My Database. There is no indication, at least to me, of the existence of any such buttons. If they're there, can you indicate them with reference to the actual picture?

Thanks,

Nick

sorry, I am not registered on avs forum, so I did not see the pictures.

I don't recall a fast learn button on my PEPv2, but when I built my config, in "my database" I just clicked on the next line in the device code list, and selected a function description (e.g. Pause), then select learn, and away it went - the learned code appears in the box just below the list of codes.

The Fast Learn IS THERE.

From the My Database Window while viewing the 'Component List' (assumes you've added at least one entry from the Philips Database to your own), click the 'Component Functions' button at the bottom of the window.

Then, the window changes and underneath the RC 5/6 and RCMM buttons and directly to the right of the Raw Learn checkbox, you will see a Fast Learn Button.

Would you like a copy of my IR codes for the 5805, I'm sure most of what you want is there and that could help you get started. Let me know

Tom L.

P.S.

After checking your posts at AVS I see now that you are looking for serial stuff, my bad, I use IR and some TCPIP stuff. Also I do NOT use PEP2 I tried it but I just don't like it. However if there is anything else I can help with let me know.

P.P.S. I do have a copy of the Denon Serial Protocol Doc V. 1.3.7a if that would be any help to you.
