Dear All,

Firstly, apologies if the post below is naive but I am new to the game but would sincerely appreciate some advice and guidance.

Have recently upgraded to an TSU9400 and am keen to take advantage of it's capability, specifically with regard to controlling streaming music.

My setup is a Synology DiskStation DS106e with UPnP media server enabled which streams music through to a Philips Wireless Music Adapter SLA 5520 which feeds sound to Yamaha YSP800 sound projector. I can obviously control the SLA5520 with the Pronto but the screen on SLA 5520 is rather small and difficult to see from a distance.

What I would like to do is use the TSU9400 to view/select the music list in addition to controlling the SLA5520.

Question really is - do I have the necessary kit to do this? And if so, how do I go about it?

Is there a set of activities / scripts that allow the use of UPnP media servers or do they need to be bespoke? I have read a bit about SqueezeCenter media server and have installed this on my DiskStation? Is this a better way to go? And if so, how does the "menage a trois" (media server / TSU9400/ WMA device) work?

Any advice or guidance would be very much appreciated.

There are two products for controlling the Squeezecenter via a Pronto. If you search this forum you will find them. I wrote SlimPronto for this purpose and there are over 180 SlimPronto users out there. Tenchi wrote ProntoSqueeze and I can not comment on his user base. Each of them costs about $30. If you want more info on Slimpronto drop me an email (see my profile). Do a little thread searching and you will find all you want to know.

It sounds like you have already gotten the commands to control the SLA5520 with the Pronto: That is the biggest challenge to overcome!

The big question is what do you want to show on the screen of the TSU9400 while you are controlling the SLA5520? Do you want to be able to scroll through a songlist, see what is currently playing, etc?

Based on the commands that you can send to the SLA5520; can you request the screen information that you need from the SLA5520? As an example if you can send a command to the SLA5520 that returns 'currently playing song'; you could then display the currently playing song text in a panel or image on the TSU9400 using Prontoscript.

There may be some pre-programmed scripts out there; either for a fee or educational purposes only. Search the forum for '+SLA5520' and see what pops up. If anyone has worked with the SLA5520 you should be able to find some scripting help.

Regarding media servers: Escient is well represented as are others; albeit Philips actually includes a pre-packaged module for it with the TSU's. For others that don't have pre-packaged modules most people will write their own scripts and communicate over TCP or whatever comm type the media server will accept.

Cheers // Jason

PS: There is a lot of info for squeeze as it has been around for quite some time and is very popular. The SLA5520 may be less popular, but that doesn't mean you can't get it to work the way you want.
You can hide almost anything until you have to put the drywall up!

This month we'll hit 200 sales of ProntoSqueeze. We have a Distributor in Australia supplying their Pronto network ProntoSqueeze. So the amount of users in Australia is unknown.

All, Thanks for the responses. Not be around much so apologies for not replying sooner.

Jason, unfortunately I don't have the commands for the SAL5520 (yes to the full set of IRs but no TCP/HTTP commands) Have been tracking packet data between the SLA5520 and the Diskstation using Wireshark but since SLA is client and DS is server, all I can see is requests from the SLA not commands to it. And I don't have a clue how to find the commands :((

Yes, I want to be able to mimic on the Pronto, the info given on the SLA. Have done some serious searching on this and other forums but cant find anybody doing the same. Found some info on the Streamium which unlocked a few doors but still struggling badly.

Before getting cute with programming, looks like I have a number of options.

1) If somehow I can find the commands to obtain info from the SLA I should (with you guys help!) be able to build something that works from scratch (given time and a lot of heartache). Any ideas how to go about this???
2) If I can't get info from the SLA I am going to have to get the info from the Diskstation and simplest way I can see of doing this is to use the ProntoSqueeze or SlimPronto applications but still then need to be able to command the SLA to get and play the relevant info from the DS. ?? Is there a way of telling the SqueezeCenter package on my DS to use the SLA as it's output location for steamed music??
3) Write my own scripts to get info from the standard UpNP music server on the DS and try and sycnchronise somehow with the SLA? Surely a standard script exists for this i.e. UPnP media server control??
4) Any other ideas?

Really appreciate your support on this even if the answers are "no way Jose".

Thanks in advance.

IIRC UpNp requires a UDP socket in addition to or instead of TCP. It uses HTTP over UDP, sometimes referred to as HTTPU or HTTPMU. A Pronto has no way of communicating in the UDP protocol that is exposed to users. There is no UDP socket architecture implemented. In windows using WinSock, their socket architectore, one of the properties of a socket is whether it communicates over UDP or TCP. The Philips Pronto has no architected capability that allows you to control it so as to talk UDP over IP. Ergo UpNp which requires UDP Protocol is a non starter.
