Hi,

When I try to download a configuration to a TSU9200 from my laptop, I get the following error message :

"There is an error with the configuration data.
No valid configuration can be generated."

I tried with 6 different TSU9200 (I've to program them for a customer),
I tried with My_Database and Factory_Database devices,
I tried uninstalling then reinstalling Pronto Configurator in different folders on the hard disk (not only Program Files),
I tried saving my projects in different folders (not only My Documents/),
I tried different versions of Pronto Configurator (from the CD and from the Pronto website),
I updated some firmware,
In Pronto configurator, step 3. Activities/Edit Activity/Edit Activity Buttons, I succeeded in sending IR codes to some devices, through th USB and TSU9200,
I uninstalled/reinstalled uptodate PEP2,
I tried several USB cables and all my USB ports,
I updated my USB drivers,
I installed Framework 3.0 and then 3.5,
I contacted my local distributor, who gave me lot's of things to try, but it still doesn't wnat to download...

Then I brought a TSU9200 home and tried on my desktop : it worked perfectly on the first try!!!???!!!
You could tell me I could simply program all the stuff at home...
But, I will certainly have to correct the program once at the customer's (it's always the case), and I don't want to bring my 2 tons desktop there.
Though, I already programmed lot's of 9400 and 9600 on PEP 1 and 2 and can't just accept to get stuck by a so simple 9200.

I saw that some people on the forum had the same problem... how did they solve it please (if they did)??? Is there something I haven't already tried?

(for info, my laptop is a Dell Precision M6300, if it can help...)

Yep, I had this too, and like you tried and tried but eventually found a solution.

With me it was that the software did not like using any IR files from previous PEP projects. Here's what I posted a few weeks ago about it...

"I had exactly the same problem with 2 x TSU9200s today. I have been talking to the Distributor here in the UK, and they have been onto the Development team.

I "think" I have found a solution/cause.

If you use certain components in your setup, then it crashes on upload with the helpful "configuration data" type error. The problem seems to be that if you use components that you have in "my Database" from a previous programming job (i.e. from programming a 9600 in PEP), then using these will cause the crash. If you do a fresh 'Factory Database' search for each component, and then add it to your system, then things go well.

The way to tell if the component is from an 'old' database, is to open 'My Database' and select 'Component Properties'. Latest IR files have a version number 2.0.15.

Bizarrely, some older component files seem to be OK. But a re-search of 'Factory Database' seems to solve it for me."

Basically, don't use any of your existing components in My database. Start fresh, and only choose components from the latest database version, and it'll work.

OK thank you,

Sadly, it doesn't seem to work for me.

I had already tried with components directly from the factory database, and I retried after reading your last post, but I still get the same error message.

Anyway, for this customer, I've learned codes for components that are not in the Factory Database, so even if it worked, it wouldn't help that much...

The codes are sent successfully in "test mode", so it seems that they are OK and that the USB communication between my laptop and th 9200 is OK too. (else I wouldn't have been able to update it's firmware neither).

I even tried to edit the activity buttons and let only 1 code (Vol+ for example), but it still fails to download the config to the remote.

Hi,

I just borrowed a colleague's laptop, installed Pronto Configurator, learned IR codes (the Squeezebox I'm listenning to at the office) in his "my_database", created a new project with an activity using the codes I just learned and it worked just fine.

So I can't believe it's a problem of factory/my database on my laptop... There MUST be something else.

Solution 1 : buy a new laptop?
Solution 2 : manage as I can with the 9200 this time and sell RTIs or Harmony for the next project?

Ok i have seen this problem on an old lap top of mine, for some reason the data getting in/out to the usb port takes longer than it should. What i then did was to reformat laptop so that is was a fresh install, then there were no other problems worked every time.

Now what i have done since then is installed a lot of free software apps, like you do, and the problem has returned, so i guess somewhere along the way something has curoupted that data patch to the usb ports..

Has any one else had a simular problem?

Any luck yet? I have the same problem, although I can't even test IR codes.

Its not the configuration file, or the elements (codes, devoces, macros, etc) it contains, because I can e-mail the config file to my desktop and download to the remote just fine from there! Just can't do it from my laptop.

Tried most of the same things you tried, and still no luck.

HELP!

See my fix and tips else where on this. Try going through all hard button and other macros and eliminating any AUTO ASSIGNED "delay - sec" entries. It will not download with these. (e.g. s/b "delay - .5 sec"). Check power on/off in particular. Remember just because you didn't assign any delays doesn't mean they are not there.

I had the same problem. I followed the threads and here is what worked for me. Ultimately the culprit was the delay setting on two componets that I downloaded from the 1remote site recommended by Philips. As stated in another post you have to go into your database and check the setup of that component. On that screen both of the Denon components had a blank default delay time. Even though I was not using a delay it still gave me the error. I changed them to .05 and we are in business again.

So far I like the 9200. I started out with the 3000 many years ago and loved it. I was not in a position to get a 9400 at the moment so I went with the 9200. The learning curve is shorter, but less custom graphics.

Hope this helps if your stuck.

I have encountered that problem (with the invalid delay settings), but this is different. Same result, where the config won't download to the remote, and same error message, but different cause.

When I had the delay problem, I could try downloading the config file from different computers, and it wouldn't download from ANY computer, until I corrected the delay settings.

However, in this situation, I have created about half a dozen different config files... none of which have any bad delay settings. And none of them will download from my laptop, but they all download just fine from other computers I have used.

So this other problem seems to be some sort of a conflict between the configurator software and my laptop (or its OS).

Anyone else experiencing this?

That definateley could be the case. When if fails due to a bad delay it fails near the beginning of the download. I later had another download failure that occurred near the end of the download. I went back and found that one of the FAVORITE channels had no codes. I added the codes and it downloaded. That said I didn't purposely induce an error to verify the problem/solution so consider this a suggestion.

So, I know this post is three years old, but if anyone comes upon it anytime soon, I definitely recommend STAYING AWAY from the Pronto TSU9200, or really ANY of the PRONTO products. URC (Universal Remote Control Inc.) is the best Bang for your buck. YES, they cost a little more than the TSU9200 system, but you will MORE than make up for it in programming time and reliability. I have had two of the four units that I've sold, break within two years. I have had NONE of the URC units (MX 900, MX990, MX890) break in over 6 years of installs.
By the way, I'm replacing one of the broken remotes now, and having issues dumping the very same file from the original remote into the second remote. So, looks like I maybe starting over! What should be a simple plug and dump is now going to be a full rebuild?

None of the Pronto Professional line (TSU9x00) of remotes that I'm aware of allow for uploading a configuration file from the remote to the computer if that's what you're looking to do.

Per your dig on the Pronto line....
I strongly disagree with your recommendation per staying away from "any" of the Pronto products. It's not fair to paint the entire Pronto Professional line with the same brush. I can't speak for the TSU9200 as I've never owned one. That being said, I'd purchase a used TSU9600 without hesitation over any URC remote despite the fact the Pronto line of remotes has been discontinuted. I've also not experienced the failure rate you've spoken of. I have a number of customers which have purchased TSU9600's on my recommendation which I do the programming for. Not one failure or issue of any kind among them to this day. In fact, I own a number of TSU9600's myself and the only one that no longer works is the one Philips provided me for beta testing years ago before the remote was even available for purchase. It just recently died after 6 plus years of use and abuse. Even so, compared to an average user I put 20 times the mileage on that remote over the years than the average person would have. I'm also a huge fan of the original version of the Pronto Professional editor, PEP v1. I use it exclusively to this day versus PEP v2 or v3.

If there is anything being powered from the USB ports it could affect the remote when connected at the same time .
  • Try unplugging all USB devices and start the computer.
  • Start a new blank configuration in Pronto Edit, with one button ( for test purposes) .
  • Plug in the remote and wait about five minutes for it to be recognized by the computer .
  • If the remote is not recognized Start over and try a different USB port .
  • If recognized, try to download the new one button config to the remote.

Occasionally I would make a Config file that was to large for the remote ( file size ) and I recieved a similar message.
