I have load the new software of Prontoedit professional onto my PC.
I did have the prontoedit NG version on there first & it worked like a charm.
Now I get the error saying Prontoedit has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I get this error on both programs.
Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me.
I reinstalled Net Framework 2.0 & MSXMl6.

I had the same problem, and someone on this list suggested that I should completely remove the old ProntoEdit program first, then re-install ProntoEdit Pro.

I saved all of my original Pronto 1000 files first in a different folder, just in case.

That worked for me.

I had no problem running the software for all 3 generations on my XP and Vista systems.

[Though I can't communicate with my 9600 on Vista]

A recent download of Windows Update patch has most likely screwed the system. I've seen a few posts in the NG forum about this issue.

Did you?

1) Unplug the remote
2) Uninstall the software
3) Reboot
4) Reinstall the software
5) Plug in the remote?

Quoting:
"I reinstalled Net Framework 2.0 & MSXMl6."

The NG software uses neither of these directly but I'd follow my procedures above just to make sure things get back to normal. May be that the .NET 2.0 did something to the database drivers.

.NET 2 won't have any effect at all. As ProntoEdit uses XML, MSXML6 is a possibility.

I bet it's MSXML6 as I've only got MSXML5 as downloaded via patches to my XP Pro setup. I've never pulled MSXML6.

Here's how to test for sure.

1. Find the directory containing MSXML6.dll
2. Open a command prompt and change into to this directory.
3. Issue the following command minus quotes "regsvr32 /u msxml6.dll"
4. Find the directory containing previous version such as MSXML5.dll or MSXML4.dll
5. Open a command prompt and change into to this directory.
6. Issue the following command minus quotes "regsvr32 msxml5.dll"
7. Try running the ProntoEdit software again and see if this works.

If you find that things still don't work, do the following to put your system back to previous state.

1. Find the directory containing MSXML6.dll
2. Open a command prompt and change into to this directory.
3. Issue the following command minus quotes "regsvr32 msxml6.dll"

Thanks very much Lyndel! I had the same problem as stated above. I did the above. I tried msxml5.dll, which didn't work for me. I had to use msxml4.dll.

Thanks!
