I have a TSU-9600 that I am using for a large multizone distributed audio and video system. The unit has recently started locking up. It seems to do it randomly (on multiple different screens). It will just stay on the screen it locks on and refuses to change or take any more input until a hard reset (via the bottom switch) is done. Intervals between lock-ups are random. The unit is on a network with an AP and a RFX-9400. The TSU-9600 has the latest firmware loaded as does the RFX-9400.

Has anyone else seen this issue (possibly software or firmware)?

Could this just be a defective unit?

Try this. Press Backlight, Menu, and Firm2 all at the same time and report back how many entries are in your diagnostic log and whether the timestamps are in proper sequence by scrolling to the end of the log.

If they are not or the log contains 100 entries, please clear the log by using the appropriate firm buttons and then reset the remote using Home, Menu, Page+ all pressed simultaneously. Try again and please let us know if lockups continue.

I found something similar with one particular config and I'm trying to see if there's a correlation so it's important that you reply back please....

They were not in order and had hit 100, mostly wifi reconnection notices... I reset it. I'm leaving a second TSU-9600 here with the same program and taking this one back to the shop to watch.

I have had a similar problem twice recently.

Originally, my problem was a very slow "wake up" on occasion. The ProntoTeam suggested a complete re-load of the OS. I followed their instructions, and that solved the problem, but meanwhile, a symptom similar to yours has started.

After running a "all lights off" command that waits one minute for me to leave the room, the remote just stays On. The screen remains lit, and no buttons seem to work. This continues until the battery runs out. After charging, it returns to normal operation, but then it'll happen again when I use that function.

I'll try the above suggestion this weekend and report back.

At least the slow wake up is fixed. That was really annoying.

Does no good to take back to the shop. What I'd like to see is if clearing the log and then resetting will allow things to work and then things get out of synch when the logs show up with incorrect time sequencing...

Are you sure to run the latest release of the firmware, because I had something similar a while ago which I resolved by installing the latest firmware.

Clearing the log did not help... I was using the original while updating the distributed audio set-up on site. It locked up three times on various screens. The battery is dead now as it just sits on whatever screen until it's battery dies. I'll check the log after recharging.

It has the latest firmware.

Do you have the latest firmware on BOTH the TSU9600 and any RFX9X00 in the network? I know you've stated you have but I'd like to be sure it is the latest on both.

I've got the ProntoTeam's ear on this one and I need to be sure as we are trying to isolate any relevance of the diagnostic log entries being out of sequence.

Please post back and let us know whether the log entries are in correct time sequence or not.

Thanks,
Lyndel

I'm at Lutron Training now (so I can't check the log), but both the TSU and RFX are running the latest updated firmware from Philips. I'll have the log tomorrow.

Okay, I powered up the TSU9600 that had locked after I cleared the diagnostic screen. The battery ran out while locked.

The only error's were:

31 Jan 08:33am 0530 Restoring Wifi Connection
05 Jan 02:54pm 0530 Restoring Wifi Connection

Jan. 5th is the wrong date of the lock-up however and Jan. 31st is when I got it back to the office and restored power.

Is the ordering above exactly how it is displayed in the diag screen? I'd expect that Jan 05 come before Jan 31. Is this not the case?

I checked: my error log had zero entries.

I followed your instructions below, including the Reset sequence.

Now it's acting VERY weird; the backlight is stuck on, and the touch-screen doesn't work at all. The hard buttons behave normally, but I can't navigate.

I've reset it twice, same results.

I'm depressed.

Well, now I've done it!

I tried to do the firmware update again to fix the lockup problem.

It gets to the "Tap center of the crosshairs" screen; I tap the first crosshair; it beeps, and the second crosshair in the lower right corner appears; no further screen taps do anything, not even a beep.

The only Hard Key that makes a beep is the Backlight button. All four Firm Keys beep, but nothing happens. The backlight does not time out.

Turning off the power switch works, but when I turn it back on, it reverts to that second Tap Crosshairs screen.

It's a BRICK. I'm going to need four original remotes to watch a movie tonight, and I'll have to turn the lights off by hand.

This is soooooo 20th Century!

Maybe the filesystem of these Prontos went corrupt. I would suggest performing a full firmware update which seems to be different from the normal one:
