Has anybody done any work on having the ProntoPro talk directly to a PC over a wi-fi network without using an rfx9600 or rfx9400? I would like to be able to write a program to emulate the rfx9400/9600 protocol on the PC (I am capable of doing that) but would at least need the message protocol being used.

This capability would open the Pronto Pro to many PC based Home Automation systems.

Good too see that others are also planing to do this.

I had a talk with Philips and check with them if they could give us the protocol but of course that wasn't possible.
So I'm going to try to reverse engineer it. I just hope they don't have any crypto or secret hashing in the protocol just to prevent such a thing. Specially when they like to mention their smart protocol. Hopefully it's just a request-response protocol to make sure the command(s) have been received.
But if we managed to do this it would open up a whole new world of uses for the TSU9600. Because then we could also send commands from the computer to the extenders and get the computer to manager your equipment! Hopefully Philips takes notice of the power it would give their new wonderful remote and help us in the right direction!

I ordered my TSU9600 and a RFX9400 yesterday so with a bit of luck I might be able to take a first look at this during the weekend.

I can understand why Philips would hide this from us. If we could replicate what the Pronto does using just a pc, the wifi extender and whatever wifi device we wated..fewer people would buy a pronto. After all, if we had a database setup on our pc's with our macros and infrared codes on it, we could make a browser interface for our wifi palms, treos or whatever

Such a person would probably not buy the TSU9600 in the first place but instead go for something cheaper. However for persons that would like to go down that route they would be forced to buy extenders to all their equipment. So Philips would still be happy because they would have taken a potential customer from some else. (Do remember that just the simplest extender cost just as much as most other remotes.)

What it would do is to enable installers even more freedom like allowing their customers to control their gear from the web or any other place and not just the TSU9600. Like a control panel on the wall. Another thing they would gain is an option to help track problems. Say your extender doesn't seem to be working. Using this you could then send an IR code directly to the extender to test it and by doing that skip the "Can the TSU9600 even send the signal onto the network" question.

So installers gain freedom, more options and thus happier customers.
Philips takes potential customers from competitors by essential offering a 'cheaper entry system'. ie Just buy an extender and you good to go. Get the TSU9600 when you get more money and want it to not just work well but look good to =)

Hi All,

when I bought my TSU 9600 I thought a browser woul be build in. After I noticed that it is not I asked Philips for the sources of the unit because of the GPL. After a little while I got the sources but without the sources of the apps build by Philips, just the sources of the OS!
After I recognized that it will be a lot of hard work to get the rest of the programs I looked for an alternate and I found this:

[Link: irtrans.de]

Guys this stuff is great! And the costs are along 200 - 220 $ and not along 1.500 $ as the TSU!!!
I bought one for testing and it does exactly what I want:
From a browser on a phone or a PC or a Notebook or anything else I´m able to control my whole IR equipment and the best thing is, all IR Codes of the CCF files are working.

So, I think I will kick off my Pronto in the next weeks and run my equipment only with this IRTrans modules, IN ANY BROWSER!!!

Best regards

Rainer
