I am using an RFX9600. It comes with a couple of dual IR emitters that stick on the front of your equipment. I also comes with singe cables with mini jacks on both ends. My questions, can you get a dual emitter cable with plugs/jacks on all ends, i.e. single out from the IR port with two plugs for two devices (rather than stick on emitters)? If so, where?
Thanks,
Marc

Marc,

The pronto cable is nothing but a mono adapter cable. Therefore, you can put a Y cable adapter on it. However, I don't recommend running 4 emitters on a single cable. A Mono Y adapter cable is available from any Radio Shack. If you can't find exactly what you need, you can build it.

Actually, I had planned on going go to Radio Shack as you suggest. However, when I mentioned that to my custom installer, he said that that sort of thing wouldn't work because of "serial" versus "parellel" wiring issues. I'll go pick it up and try it.

I won't plan on putting 4 emitters on a cable. I would just like to have two for each port.

I would hook up more of my devices by serial. I bought the cables and have been prepared to do so. I hooked up my Marantz DV9600 DVD player by serial and it works great. However, I'm new to this serial programing. The commands were pretty straightforward for the Marantz. However, the documentation for the serial programming for some of the other devices is a little complex for me to sort out.

Your installer is correct about the series vs. parallel issue. Most dual emitters are wired in series. If you are careful you can create this type of hookup with parts from Radio Shack. I see no problem with creating what is essentially a dual emitter with mono plugs just wire them in series so as not to drop your signal strength.

Don't give up on the serial control. It's very reliable and fairly straight forward but you may need to call the manufacturer to find out what they mean by a carriage return.

Carriage Return (CR) is ASCII 13 or hex 0x0D. Linefeed (LF) is ASCII 10 or hex 0x0A

Marc,

The other option is to get more dual emitters, like those supplied with the RFX9600. I can get those for you if needed.

I've been trying serial. Please see my question I just posted about serial commands. Thanks for your help.
