Is there a manual or guide other than the one that came with the 9600 so i can program this thing appropriately. The software is not user friendly at all.

With "programming" do you mean just setting images, buttons, IR functions, etc... or "real" programming with ProntoScript ?

You want a design/user's guide for developing a configuration, not programming. The best I can offer is F1 help, download the classic pronto's ProntoEdit 4.0.X manual, or see www.prontowizard.com for the Ultimate Pronto Guide which was written for the predecessor of these remotes. However, the concepts are very similar.

no - i do not want to use pronto script - i just want icons that will control my items and mulitple lists to do what i want - i have looked around and bought the 25.00 pronto pro guide.

i actually have some what figured this thing out - but again the software is not user friendly and Philips should be ashamed of themselves for putting out this software. I've been in the software business for 25 years and have never seen such an unuser friendly program in my life.

good software should be childs play -

If you want a remote that can be programmed with having to have a brain, buy a logitech. They do a good job and you dont really need any knowledge to program them.

The prontos are more of a professional control that require some sort of knowledge, or money to pay someone to program it for you. They are capable of sooooo much more than most remotes on the market but you have to TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN!!!!

Or you could do a course.

Thanks Lyndel. The Ultimate Pronto Guide is the only guide on the market, for programming the pronto. It does not have some of the features for the TSU9400 or TSU9600 but it can help most users with design philosophy and much more. It is written for the NG series Pronto remotes but the editor has not really changed that much in the last few years.

It will likely get most users over the hump and still provide good benefits.

Thx Dave

I find it quite easy to use, but then I have been in the pronto world for 8 years.

The next version of ProntoEditPro is supposed to be a complete rewrite, and be quite different and easier to use etc. Hope it delivers.

ike,

As bambam states, the pronto is MUCH more capable than any remote you can buy from Logitech/Harmony. If you can bear to use the software, you can indeed accomplish much more with this platform. Once you get over the hump, I'll bet you will be satisfied you have such control.

Thank you for your comments - i actually am about 75% done with my setup on the 9600. Took a little time to learn what i was doing -

my equipment is: pio tv, denon reveiver, toshiba and pany dvd players, sony cd player, ipod and 2 dtv receivers.

one big problem with the software is the lack if graphic images built in and the lack of a true snap-to window and a lack of the latest equipment in the database - did a lot of "learns" - most worked - some didn't. The other problem with the software is the lack of zooming. I used the basic classic .xcf as my base model.

I have macros and of course the appropriate windows. I figure it will take me about a week to get this first one done and i will see how i like it.

one thing i am disapointed in is the software inability to create a scrollable list. for example a list of cd in a sony 777es. Or a scrollable list of tv stations for example - this should be built into the software. Even sony had it in their NX7000 software.

You can create a list but you must do so using a set of panels/buttons and use ProntoScript.

I, too would like to see some more advanced widgets including a listbox and scrolling text window but I've had to make do with what is provided.

Another vote here for more advanced widgets. I'd really like a scrolling device label for the title bar and the ability to not display it, rather than having to leave the label blank in the tree.

one more thing about this software. From what i can gather, it has been around for quite a while. I would have thought that Philips would have made it much better - but looks like they could care less.

someone mentioned that they are coming out with a new version - any idea as to when?
