hi all,

i am trying to get the 9600 on my wireless network to work with my HAI home automation. at first i tried with the 9600 and my wireless access point. no go, so i purchased the extender. i have tried setting up the extender in ethernet mode and wifi mode. no matter what i do, i can't get my 9600 to see my network or extender. i can see the extender in configuration setup using the pc or the router setup with discovery in pronto professional software. anyway, i spoke with philips 2x and basically everything they told me, i had tried. now i understand i don't need an extender if i have a wireless access point. i am coming to beleive i have a defective remote but maybe someone could lead me with the correct approach to set this up.

hopefully i am missing something and the remote is fine.

thanks,

jason

You did not post enough information for anyone to really be able to help!
FYI, you may be incorrect in an assumption that extender is not needed.

For your HA1, this may be the case if it can communicate via TCP/IP. However, to send IR commands to any equipment that may be buried in a closet somewhere, you likely are going to need an extender.

What is your SSID? Security Encryption?
passphrase or keycode?
Are you using DHCP on the 9600 or RFX9400?
What are the settings for each?

What is the Gateway IP on your router?
192.168.1.1? If so, the Extender is on a different subnet (192.168.0.1) and your
9600 will never be able to communicate.

Is your network a Wireless G Network?
What type of router?

If you are network saavy, then these questions will make sense and you can hopefully help us help you.

Serky,

You shouldn't need the extender. Make sure the network access point is set up for WEP encryption and it is enabled on the Pronto as well.

You may want to check out the free download on the Pronto site for the HAI controller in the Certified Philips Pronto Installer section.

Also, download & read the application note that is there as it describes the network setup for the Pronto.

For reference, the HAI/Philips partnership is described here:

as confirmed above, i also unistalled the extender and tried to communicate directly to my wireless access point without success.

Do you get any messages in the Pronto Diagnostic menu?

Open the Diagnostics screen:
Backlight + Menu + FirmKey2

What is the IP of your router, if it is 192.168.1.1 then your addresses of your devices should be: 192.168.1.xx Also in the router, you can set a 'start' address, i.e. from .34 and sometimes a limited number of devices i.e. 10

Maybe try disabling the wireless security to see if you can get it working.

Mine is currently only protect by using Mac address, but I have a new Wireless system to setup that I will add encryption to. Current wireless is about 5 years old and only -b. Have a new b/g/n device to setup.

Also check your setup on the Pronto 9600. Press & hold the Config icon on the LCD to access the config menu. On the 'Info' page, you will see the details including Mac address and IP.

Thanks guys,

i did disable the wireless security at first and couldn't get it to work. when i called philips, they told me to use the security with wifi. on the config page, on the list tab: 0500 Wifi Library error 29 all the way down.
on the info tab: get a SSID and Mac asddress but no IP address listed.

how do i program the pronto to get the address?
i thought i did by: system properties -wireless settings -enable pronto wireless on control panel checked, with wireless and seriel in network mode.
SSID, WEP 128, (same on the airport express) passphrase, fixed ip with the pronto in the 192.168.2.x range. (same as router)

thanks again,

jason

Hi,

Looks like you are on the write lines. On the systems properties 'Wireless' tab, make sure you have selected: with wireless & extenders .......

Then you will see a panle on hte right hand side. Here you can provide a 'fixed' IP address for the pronto. Select and address higher than any device you already have, subnet mask as per your router, the 'default gateway & DNS I have with just 0.0...

The SSID is the name of your wireless network.

Hope this helps. Otherwise I can try and take a 'printscreen' and send this to you via PM.

thanks,

this is why i think there is something wrong with my tsu9600. i feel the settings are pretty straight forward. now i realize my device has no ip address. this makes me think even more there is a problem with it. i have configured as directed and still get no ip address for the device. would you say there is a problem with the pronto at this point?

Jason,

I'd say try a different router and/or tell us what the SSID of the network is via a PC that's connected to the network. This would help us troubleshoot better.

If it is the string 'SSID' then your router should match this. I suspect that if you are using out of the box Linksys, it may be 'Linksys'.

Is the linksys router your access point?

linksys is the router. it is not wireless. the airport express is connected to the linksys. i have no problem getting other wireless devices connected to it using the same SSID and passpphrase that is set up. it is in the same room that i am using the pronto so signal strength should not be an issue. shouldn't the pronto get an ip address when i set it up with the pronto professional software?

another error i am getting is wifi interface has no ip address in the diagnostics panel. i loaded a new 1 page file. the remote says "connecting ... 1/1 but nothing happens.

Not sure that the 9600 will work with Airport Express. There's a list of WAPs/Routers that Philips has tested with.

On your Airport, we will need to know exactly what the following settings are:

1. SSID
2. Security (WEP, 128 for example)
3. Gateway Address (192.168.3.1, for example)
4. Subnet mask you specified on 9600 (255.255.255.0 for example)
4. Wireless Mode (B/G, G-Only, etc. Pronto likes Wireless G)
5. DNS to be used (required if you want to access the internet and you are using FIXED IP).

The fact that you are not getting an IP address is indicative that one of the above settings is incorrect.

thanks again lyndel.

now i tried using a linksys g/n router. i still get no ip address. i set it up specifically for the use with the tsu9600. i am able to connect with other devices. i used dhcp for the pronto with no security.

i even set the router with no security and no security using specific mac address, using the prontos. i still get no connection and wifi interface has no ip address. at this point i am hopeful it is a problem with the prontos wifi even though i feel it is tryiing to connect.

Jason,

It may be the pronto. Since you are not answering the questions I've asked, I have to assume you are network-saavy and understand subnet masks and know what the heck you are doing. If this is indeed the case, I'd suggest an exchange. If not, I can't assist further without maybe some screen prints of your pronto Wireless Settings properties page and a screen print of what you are seeing from your router.

lyndel,

sorry for not asking the questions directly. i am pretty network savy but maybe i am missing something.

these are the settings i used to set up the linksys router solely for pronto use.
1. SSID pronto
2. Security (WEP, 128 for example) wep 128 and the tried none
3. Gateway Address (192.168.3.1, for example) 192.168.2.1
4. Subnet mask you specified on 9600 (255.255.255.0 for example) 255.255.255.0
4. Wireless Mode (B/G, G-Only, etc. Pronto likes Wireless G) g/n mixed
5. DNS to be used (required if you want to access the internet and you are using FIXED IP). tried DHCP and then fixed with 192.168.2.14 with the gateway address and subnet listed above.

hope this helps,

jason
