I am trying to build a commercial skipping macro that I've used for my 8300HD with my previous remote. It is pretty much like a channel macro:

FF
delay
FF
delay
FF
longer delay
Play

Well, it does not work at all on my new 9600. The little icon in the top-left part of the 9600 animates but nothing is (apparently) being sent. I have used the "create channel macro" button to see if that would work -on the same button- and it works like a charm.

If I replace the channel digit buttons with the FF command, it does not work (even if there is no Play command at the end). Having two FF commands separated by a delay does not work. That makes no sense to me.

It seems the FF command is the culprit but if I use it by itself -on the same button- it works fine. I have tried both linking to the codes page and "add IR code" approaches with the same result.

Any thoughts?

Sylvian,

Although not exactly the same situation as you I did have a similar problem with a macro. I resolved it by setting the minimum duration for the IR codes. For some reason my device was not registering the ir-code when set at default. Fast Test IR worked, but it no longer worked as soon as I put it in a macro. Changing the duration did the trick.

Just a thought.

Brian.

Just tried it Brian but it did not change anything. I wonder if the default wasn't already 0.01 sec. Maybe I should try the other way around and make it longer?

**Update: pumped it up to 0.05 with no luck but making it 0.1 sec got it to work fine.

Thanks Brian. Much appreciated.

I still can't use a link to make this macro work though. It is setup basically like a channel macro and not with a link. Go figure.

It should be .1 or .5, not .01 or .05.

Thanks Lyndel. Is 0.1 the default? I don't think we have control over the default setting, do we?

What is the source? DirecTV, Dish, or Comcast. If it's comcast, I found a skip 30 sec code that doesnt exist on any Comcast remote. I think they were originally going to include it but then bowed to pressure from advertisers making it harder to skip through commercials quickly.

A lot of people just hit the FF until the show is back on, then go back 15 sec with the replay button. The skip 30 is great.

Skip 30 would be nice but this is for an SA 8300HD and, as far as I know, there are no skip command of any sort available out there. Other than not having a skip code/function for 8300HD, the issue I have is that I can't use a macro for the "home made" commercial skip function. I have to copy the codes into every instance where I have it which is annoying because it has to be changed in multiple places...

BTW, would someone know what was the default duration on older remotes like the RC5200 that I have? Was it 0.2?

I am still having issues with the cursor keys for the 8300HD and am wondering if I don't have a mechanical problem especially with the up arrow. I even downloaded new codes for the 8300HD from this site to address the problem but it is still not quite as good as my old remote. (the up arrow will just miss on sending the command every now and then)

I hope I can fix this one way or the other. If the 9600 ends up being less effective/reliable for sending IR codes, the spousal authorities won't like it and the remote will have to go back...
