When adding a device in My Database, PEP adds some strange characters to Brand, Device and model after I close the database. I have had PEP installed on several XP computers, this is my first running Vista. Has this something to do with Vista?

No, nothing to do with Vista. IIRC, the database window does not understand symbols such as Play/Rewind/Stop/FastForward. You will want to change these to text.

I dont use symbols, just plain text. Reciever, DVD, Onkyo etc. When I open "My Database". Reciever is renamed Reciever><*\ and even with more odd characters.

How are you adding the device into your DB? Are you importing a .ccf or .pcf file?
If so, possibly the odd characters are coming from the label for the actual code. In .ccf and .pcf files there are two different labels. One is the label of the button and one is the label of the code.
Possibly (as Lyndel mentioned above) the person who created the .ccf/.pcf file used symbols for the code label and PEP is not handling these well.
I had a similar situation using XP. Once I imported a .pcf file into PEP and saved it into my DB, when viewed there were odd characters in place of some of the "symbol" labels the person used. However many of the labels were ok.

I do not import a .ccf or pcf. I open mydatabase, and in the window Configure device just add brand, device and model to make a new entry. What happens is that brand is labeled from Onkyo to Onkyou~ áuÆŠìu˜óu8ô.en Owner, version, delay and Power on is also been renamed with this characters. The database is moved from an old PC running XP SP2 witch never experienced any problems.

I also have the same problem, I'm running Vista too. Notice how the first three entries have had additional characters appended to their brand, device or model. All of the entries have been added to mydatabase by right clicking on the device containing the ir codes in the device tree in PEP then clicking add to my database

What did you do to solve the problem? Stopped using My Database! Until all the devices are labeled correctly, it's a bit of a waste of time IMO.

Here is the reply I got from the ProntoTeam:
I forwarded the issue to the development team, but they are unable to reproduce the issue on their systems. We know about the issue, and even had seen it ourselves a while ago, but for some reason it was solved the next day and never re-appeared again. We are currently looking for a reason as to why this occurs on some Windows installations. We will keep you informed as soon as we have more information on the issue.
Kind regards, The Pronto team

I had the same thing and did a bit of research. Perhaps this helps someone draw some kind of smart conclusion :) - On my vista 64bit, it does the weird characters - Using XP (32 bit) it's fine - "My Database" is just a SQLite3 database, you can open and modify it using any SQLite tool - Using the SQLite tools, the database remains fine.
I ended up putting everything in My Database on XP32 and copying it back to Vista64. Any adjustment on Vista64 will immediately start messing things up again.
From a programmers perspective, it looks very much like pointers going awry, buffers overflowing, or something to that effect.

In another post, someone suggested that Logitech SetPoint software was to blame and sure enough, after I exited from SetPoint, I stopped getting weird characters in My Database.

just to bump an old thread...
I am adding my IR2BT codes into "My Database" to help my migration from PEP to PEP2 and am seeing the same special character behavior. Has there been any real fix for this?
Thanks. -chad

I think you have a different issue. When migrating from PEP 1 to PEP 2 you should remove all special characters in names. This is detailed in the instructions for upgarding to V2.
This is not a bug. My Database does not use the special Pronto fonts. The reason is that My Database is shared by mutiple Pronto models and they do not all use the same fonts. Thus, special fonts are not used.
