I can't seem to get my TSU9600 to display metadata (or even status) for audio tracks from my Fireball (MX-111). I do, however, receive some garbage on the remote that leads me to believe it is communicating with the Fireball (seemingly arbitrary status information). According to Escient: [Link: escient.com]...the TSU9600 should be able to display metadata and status information from audio files on pretty much any Fireball other than the SE-series. Philips, on the other hand, says that the TSU9600 can only communicate with the E2-series Fireballs (from their website). Has anyone had any luck getting the Pronto to work with MX-series (or AVX-series) Fireballs? Before I spend a lot of time working through this on my own I figured I'd see if anyone else has had any luck. I haven't spent a lot of time on it yet, but if nobody else has been able to figure this out I'll take it back to the manufacturers; the main reason I'm carrying TSU9600s is for their Escient integration... TIA!

David,
Unfortunately, the problem description you provided does not help much. Do you have any other fireballs to which you can try to connect?
I do know that the Escient devices as well as the TSU9600 do not handle 8-bit character values greater than 127 and also do not like the # symbol. Maybe they are now using unicode or some other character encoding. Might be worth a call to Escient to see what, if anything, changed.
The document they now have posted is probably there because someone assembled it from Pronto Documentation. I've personally spoken with them regarding several issues with the TSU9600 integration and bugs in the DVDM firmware/Fireball PC that prevent jacket pictures from music on Fireball PC from being displayed on the TSU9600.

Reguarding Escient- I have used the new pronto (TSU9600) on 2 Escient systems, and works great! However.... Using the new reciver (RFX9400), yes it has Wi-Fi, but only between the remote and the reciver. it cannot be an accive Wi-Fi point. You do need to have a 3rd party Wi-Fi router in place and wired to the Escient. I dont know why Phillips did this, Hopefully the next gen of recivers will be true Wi-Fi. Second note- The TSU9600 will only control the head end on the Escient, You cannot control streams from the Escient via TSU9600 as of yet. Keep in mind that this is an Awesome Remote! Now its up to programers to exploit it! Watch for firmware and software updates!!!!

The TSU9600 requires a router on the network as it can only commuincate with the Escient via IP configuration. That is, both the 9600 and Fireball are assigned IP addresses to facilitate TCP/IP communication.
Are you stating that there is a problem? If so, please clarify.

Hi, My name is Tont Montgomery with Escient Tech Support. I ran across this thread and thought I'd comment. I have personally tested the TSU9600. I connected 4 different FireBall models to the main menu as a test. I can confidently say that the FireBall E2, DVDM, MX & AVX series work fine --> FOR MUSIC ONLY at this time. It is my understanding that Philips is currently working on the MOVIE module. So to clarify: H-40 = not compatible E-40/120 = not compatible SE-80 / SE-D1 = not compatible SE-160i = works fine (thanks for reminder Mal Fisher, AWE Europe!) E2 series = works fine DVDM = works fine for Music only at this time MX = works fine for Music only at this time AVX = works fine for Music only at this time Let me know if you are still having problems. Feel free to email me at tmontgomery_at_escient_dot_com.

Feel free to email me at tmontgomery_at_escient_dot_com. Thanks for the comments Tony. Just to provide one additional point that you may not have tested. When accessing the DVDM's, the TSU9600 incorrectly accesses the 'Servers' group as the 'PlayLists' if there is no 'PlayLists' group in place on the DVDM (whatever group is at ordinal position 3 as in 1,2,3).

Thanks for all the help guys! As I mentioned, I really hadn't spent a lot of time playing with this but wanted to know if it was possible before I spent a lot of effort on it; based on Philips' statement that the Pronto only worked with E2-series Fireballs I thought it might be a lost cause.
But no such worries: I found the problem in my configuration and it works like a charm now. Thanks to everyone for posting and helping me out!

David,
Would you mind sharing the solution in case others run into the same situation?

FYI... my edit was to clarify that the TSU9600 IS compatible with the SE-160i. This is the internationally version. SE-80 & SE-D1 do not have TCP/IP control... The SE-160i does have TCP/IP control. This was brought to my attention by Mal Fisher with AWE Europe.
