I hope I am not repeating a much asked question, but where are the channel Icons now? I thought there were at "Remote 1" at one time, but did not see them there?

Thank you much (just trying to update my icons).

I think there are many icons to be found in the Files area. Philips also has galleries available on their website [Link: pronto.philips.com].

Are there any other sources of hi-res channel logos that match the Philips scheme?

There are many local stations missing in my area and even several well-known stations missing from the national set (e.g. CNN Headline News).

Even a blank button would be nice--beats me why Philips didn't include one in the set so we could roll our own logos for the missing ones.

You can get logos from

http://www.lyngsat-logo.com/

You would still need to make then look like the Philips ones.

Thanks. I've got the logos I need, I just need the blank 3D button that matches the Philips channel buttons.

If you browse your gallery, you will find the blank 3D button. Save it in a folder of your computer that you can access easily. Otherwise, the default folder is normally the following one C:\Program Files\Philips\ProntoEdit Professional\Gallery\Bitmaps. Then use, for exemple Photoshop or PhotoImpact, to copy the layout of the blank 3D button and paste it on the logo you've donloaded.
Some points you have to pay attention to :
1. The logo must be 94*59, if you want it to match to those from Philips.
2. Make sure that the logo you've downloaded is a 24-bit RVB real colour image. If not, change it because otherwise your released button will be horrible.
3. If you really want tour buttons to be exactly like the one of Philips, change all the "white" zones into gray ones, using the following color composition : R = 169, V = 169, B = 169, T = 0, S = 0, L = 66. The HEX code is : #A9A9A9
Wih this solution, you have a "real" Pressed and Released state button, and it takes only 2 to 5 minutes to create this kinf of button. I've created more than 50 buttons this way for my installation, and they all look great. The thing that takes the most time is to find the logo you're searching for, in a good resolution.

If you want to make it easier, just import your logo as an image, still 94*59, and then paste above it the blank 3D button from the gallery.

E-mail me if you want me to create on button for you, so you can see the result. I can also send you exemples of what I've done

Christophe,

Thanks for the detailed information. That will come in handy when I create my own channel logo buttons.

I browsed the gallery and can't find the blank 3D button used for the channel logos anywhere. What category is it in?

Do you know the filename of the blank channel logo 3D button? They all seem to be in the form bmpxxxx.png, where 'xxxx' is a four digit number.

In my case, the file name is bmp8802.png, and I can find it in the TV icons Belgium, TV icons France and TV icons Greece, usually the last button in the list.

I must say I've done gallery updates ( European Icons Feb 2007, Standard Jan 2007 and US channel icons Jan 2007 ) and have made a lot of buttons myself, so I'm almost sure the filename won't be same in your case, but I can be wrong.

Thanks. I found the blank buttons in the Belgium and France databases. For some odd reason the blank button is not in any of the U.S. databases.

If you want to create the exact same look as the Philips channel icons in a hurry, I made a transparent .png file you can put on top of any same size channel icon to get the raised / beveled look.

[Link: guiwerx.com]

Here is one out the gallery without the overlay

Here is one with my file on top, it's identical to the ones they use.

It works on the colored ones too.

Enjoy.

There's this great little tool called... logo tool.

Grab it for free at GuiFX.com

It can generate a complete set of buttons from a folder full of logos and a background pic.

It will resize and pad the logos.

Must-have.

LogoTools is great if you want the standard 62 x 46 pixel channel icons, I supplied the overlay for the gloss black ones way back when :).

The Philips icons are a strange size but work better on a small 640x480 pixel display. The standard sized icons, when put on a 9600, are one quarter of the normal size they are on a remote like the MX3000 or any 320 X 240 display. This is why I created the overlay, it's hard to get the same look simply by using a bevel plugin as the overlay also adds darkness to the original graphic. If you know to do a batch conversion using a script in PSP, you can add the bevel overlay to 1 or 1000 icons all at once.

I originally wrote one to reverse the intensity which affected only black white and grey areas but left the colors as is, which gave the white icons a black background, then the script would add the gloss as a new layer and save the file.

GuiFX came up with a great tool for creating custom channel icons and it's been getting better ever since. I tried to keep up with a downloadable library from my website but it was a lot of work. As soon as LogoTools came out, I took the page down as there was no need for it.

If anyone uses the Philips overlay I made, let me know how it worked out.

Thanks for the pointer to Logo Tools. I downloaded it and tried to generate logos using the blank button from the gallery and get buttons that have only part of the logo on them at the very top of the button.

I haven't used it in along time but there has to be a simple reason why it's doing that.

Oh, I'm sure there is, but I haven't been able to find it yet. :-(
