Hi there-

I'll soon receive a TSU9600, and I wonder if any you have ideas for how to use the remote with Slim Server from Slim Devices. I know that I can use the remote to control a SliMP3/Squeezebox device as normal.

Ideally, however, I'd like to be able to view and control the Slim Server directly from the remote, i.e., choose songs and see what is playing, etc., on the TSU9600 screen. I understand that is possible with Escient music servers thanks to built-in support. Any ideas as to how to achieve a similar capability with the Slim Server?

Alternatively, does anyone know if it is possible to force the Slim Server to emulate a Escient system?

Thanks,
Ron

Possible, maybe. You'd need to download the escient protocol document. Search this forum for +Escient +Protocol and you'll find the URL. I personally integrated this protocol into my own custom media server and have it working just fine. There's another user attempting to do the same for Windows Media. In order to do this, there must be an API for the Slim Server that you have access to.

You could resort to sending keystrokes but that will be very sluggish and will most likely not work because the Escient protocol is a 2-way protocol in that the remote needs to know play times, song info, etc... in order to function properly.

Can the pro surf to a web page? (I know it's got WiFI, but wasn't sure if it had built-in browser) If so, just surf to [Link: YourHostPC]. It has a web interface for controlling the music stream.

I don't use a SqueezeBox, but I just use their SlimServer software to stream to my PrismIQ. I imagine with the SqueezeBox, you still have to install their server software on a host PC?
