Hey guys,

this is a great forum and this is my first post.
I'm looking at starting a home automation project for my house and one of the things standing in my way is that I use a Bahn HTE-400 AV receiver.
I've tried looking absolutely everywhere for its IR codes but no joy, I've also tried testing other remotes to hopefully find a close code but still nothing.

The only other thing I can think of is to "learn" the codes with my harmony controller and hopefully find d a way to extract the code from there.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and I hope there's a much simpler way to accomplish this. For example one of you already has the code :)

One option is to buy an ir learner that comes with a software package.

Companies like Global Cache, Kramer, Command Fusion, and RTI all make these.

There not super cheap, but are great little pieces to own.

You basically plug the learner into the USB input on your computer and load the software. Then you point the remote at the learner and learn each of the commands from the factory remote. After the commands are learned you can convert them into something called hex. The hex commands can then be copied and pasted into most universal remote or home automation programming software packages (not named Harmony).

Or you could just get a new receiver with more common commands.

IRWidget is the best IR capture and decoding devices I've ever used. The software is free.

Sirs2k,

check out IrScrutinizer [Link: harctoolbox.org] and the capturing hardware it supports (IrWidget, GlobalCache, IrToy, Arduino).

@mdavej: For a short time, the Texans in your link offered IrWidgets -- for quite a price (USD 40 or something, considering the cost of the parts, possibly 3 USD). But not now any longer.

Sorry, I forgot to mention IrScrutinizer. Great work, and definitely they way to go.

But I'm fairly certain Tommy still sells widgets through that site, albeit indirectly.

I am a little surprised these are only available through Harmony. I see input commands, but no discrete power. How do you intend on handling that? I can learn the codes for from the harmony into hex format, but I am limited to whatever is in the harmony database.
