Sony BDP-BX18 Remote Lost - Can I use Yamaha AV Receiver Remote?

My friend gifted me his Sony BDP-BX18 Blu-ray player but the remote (RMT-B118A) was lost. The physical button on the front face to eject a disc is also missing but I can manually open/close the drawer with a slim screwdriver.

I have a Yamaha AV receiver, RX-V383, which came with the OEM Yamaha remote RAV532. There are buttons on the bottom for stop, play, chapter search etc. I was just chatting with Yamaha support and they say that these "are for performing playback operations when “USB” is selected as the input source, or control playback of the HDMI Control-compatible playback device." I am not currently at home (while typing this) but I think that I can change the HDMI input to USB. The Yamaha chat agent said that the RAV532 will only operate other Yamaha products but he didn't even know that the RAV532 had stop, play, chapter search buttons.

I can't afford to buy another remote at this time but I have an older URC-200 Automator that would probably work.

I would also like to control my LG 43LJ550M (tv) On/Off power with the Yamaha RAV532, if possible.

Hi Edmund!

I don't have a cable box. I'm going to try the URC-200. Do you have the codes for my Sony Blu-ray? Thankl you!

Sorry but that is too old of a remote to have blu-ray codes in it. Not even the next generation of remotes the rf10, rf20, and rf30 had bluray codes in them.

The good news is that ALL Sony blu-ray players use exactly the same codes. So if you know anybody else with any Sony BD player, all you have to do is learn the commands you need.

If you're able to scrape up $6 or so, you could just buy a Sony remote. Maybe check a few coin fountains when nobody's looking.

Just make sure whatever you get is for Sony blu-ray, not DVD. Those codes are different.
