I'm ignorant here. I have a DIY amplifier with an IR receiver and generic IR remote. I want to use my Samsung S6 as the remote instead. My documentation only says:

Standard Phillips RC5 protocol

Function/RC5 Code

1 Power 50
2 Volume up 51
etc

The android apps I've downloaded want you to choose a device model. I've tried selecting every Phillips TV model available. I just want to enter RC5 code (50) and assign the button (power) to it. Or is that how it works? Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Thank you

You need a "device address" (sometimes called "system") too. This is a number between 0 and 31 (inclusive). Not sure how to enter that into your app, though.

Thanks, Barf. I found out the system number is 16 (preamplifier). That gives me command tables 2 and 11. On table 11, command 50 is left blank.

Is this enough information for me to theoretically figure this out or do I need to buy a device (transceiver?) to read the actual codes being transmitted from the remote?

Anyone???

Just try it, and see how far you get.

Those tables can be seen as Philip's recommendations; there is nothing preventing a manufacturer from implementing more or less or differently.

An alternative to capturing/learning the remote is to gather the information in the internet (for example in this forum). If it is a DIY amplifier, information should be available.

Also brute-force searches are possible.
