Hi folks,
I'm new to your game here, and most of what I've seen on your forum is a bit over my head, but I'll get familiar.
What I need compared to a lot of you looks to be pretty basic. Somebody gave me a small Wards TV that I took to the cabin. The remote is long gone and all I really need to do is turn this TV on and off and control volume, but I also need to figure out how to get the display back to normal. The present channel is displayed in a rather large numeral just right of center screen. It never goes away, so I found this RCA Universal in a collection of old remotes and it had a "display" button on it, which I assume I will need to shut off that channel number displayed so prominently.
This remote number was found on replacementremotes.com and it also made note of p/n 201168 for what ever reason, in case that helps. It doesn't seem to program like other RCA universals in that it has no code button and no blinking red light, hence my problem. I have no idea how to dump codes into this thing! What it does have, starting at upper left, is TV, VCR1, VCR2. Directly below that is two much smaller buttons labeled Add and Erase, which I'm sure are instrumental in pushing new codes inside. I've tried using them in a couple different ways, but no luck. Anybody know where I might find instructions for this thing? I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Oh, how I've come to fear such words . . . they usually indicating a trawl through the darker recesses of the web (with little or no hope of a solution).

Your remote appears to be a generic model that was originally supplied with a number of VCRs.

Being generic you'll need to locate a manual for a model of VCR it was supplied with, though what level of TV instruction said manual may include (assuming one can find one - I've not had much success) is somewhat moot.
